Playback of mp3's still pop and squeak while you're analysing replay gain. The has been the same in every build of MJ8 so far.
The vis studio seems to strip one row of pixels from the bottom and right of the image when it displays cover art. i have an image with a 1 pixel white border and I only got the left and top of it.
If you do a scope in the vis studio and then put the cover art over the top of it, the scope shows through black areas in the image. But there doesn't seem to be an option to disable this, or choose the keying colour. I don't know if this has always happened, but I've just noticed it.
-
Toolbar buttons-
After clicking on buttons to get the dropdown menu, if you roll across some of the other buttons to see their drops it will dispaly a few, then the drops vanish. This is done without clicking off to the side or on the buttons.

These bugs are from .226; saw nothing pertinent to fixin' them in this release.
Device description in top-left corner of MJ hung on CD Burner (F) and won't change with running other devices.

Had a strange( anomoly? ) happen when ripping. Part way through a rip I connected to the www and analyzing devices kicked in again. Didn't cause MJ to hang or prevent internet connection. Just have not seen that before. Also continued the rip without a problem.
UPDATE-Pretty sure this is bug now, it does this every time when connecting to internet. The analyzing devices pop-up comes up over IE instead of staying in MJ.

I'm very tired. Time for me to take medicine and go to la-la land myself.
I SHALL RETURN. You can count on it - at least till some bugs are removed from this program.

I have been having the same problems as Shotgun2 and this has been going on for quite a few builds. Buffering, crashing, can't shut it down, having to reboot, I have to use CTRL_ALT_DEL to shut it down but at least this works now before I had to shut down the computer. I love this product but I must say there really is some major issues in this beta and yes I know it's beta but well into it I will add. I hope this problem is fixed soon because I'm lost without my MJ or perhaps it's just the music I'm lost without.

The custom quality command line option still does not work properly. If ones adds options to the -q 0 parameter such as -b 160, MJ freezes.
Please fix.

Bugs:
1. All too often, MJ crashes when pressing the Mega-Me restore button or the Close (application) button while in mini-Me mode. MJ crashes about 80% to 90% of the time when doing this (with *any* skin like Rotor or my LRII skin). MJ updates the states.xml file and crashes.
2. If pressing the Mega-Me restore button in mini-Me mode does not crash MJ, the restored MJ mega-me screen does not get the focus (haved to press Alt-Tab once to focus MJ).
3. While using the Skin Manager, if a skin cannot be loaded (syntax error in .XML file)...somehow MJ reverts back to showing the Skin's directory name and not the name from Skin name specified in the main.xml file (old bug returns).
(NOTE: Noticed these bugs on my WinXP system)
-
When using the "DJ" Track Info Page, when switching to another song, it always prompts me :
"An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts on the page, do you want to allow this interaction ?"
I went to security settings in my IE and changed all activex parts to enable for internet and intranet, but no change.
What setting do I have to change in IE to prevent this message ?
-
Hmmmm
Think I will skip this build
Whenever I try to create a media view, say Artist/Album, I always get the full track listing of the search criteria on the Album. Not sure if I am having the same problem Lise reported.
Doof: If you have any advice on this ?

This Error occurs every second fade playing a mp3-playlist. Changing Playback-Options doesn´t help. (using Directsound makes things even worse) Tried using Onboard-sound or Soundblaster Live -- no effect. Error didn´t occur in MJ 7.2

I keep getting a failure to initialize Registration control mesage which means M.J. does not even open to be used! Please help. Is there a solution to this problem?!

I'll be interested to see V8 Help when it's available. Some of the features in 8 have become very very complicated and will be difficult to describe to a new customer. Someone mentioned a while ago of having different modes - expert, novice etc . I'm pretty sure you're gonna need something like it. From experience, I set MJ7 up on my sister's machine about 6 months ago and recently visited her. She does'nt wanna be expert at MJ, just wants to rip and play with a few playlists etc. Her MJ library and music folder are a total mess and, because of that, she does'nt use it a lot.Main problem - trying to get her to understand the correlation between the variations of track number, track name, artist, album etc etc and then the principle of importing. Stuff that we take for granted is oh, not soooooo obvious to people who just wanna play a playlist.
Looking forward in anticipation...... Jim

When playing APL files with vis running for an undetermined amount of time, MJ crashes.
This one is particularly frustrating because it's appeared in every build since I can remember. But for every time that this occurs, I can also have it play for 10 hours without problem.
-
Hotkey control|PLS|U doesn't pause player.
-
Compliment:
*That feature about viewing vis while in dj track info is SO cool!
You just know how to add more and more pleasure and enjoyment in using MJ.
Bugs:
Re.track info templates:
*Boxed has a problem in adjusting cover art. Sometimes the cover art gets too big and block for the text.
btw - maybe two similar threads should be created when doing a new build:
a bug thread and a compliments thread?
*MusicEx does not display any cover art in the box at all. It is just blank.

Here's a new one.
MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module VIS STUDIO.DLL at 0167:021f9233.
Had MJ stopped for a few minutes, clicked play and tried to pull down divider bar when this came up.

Just happened again. Slight difference between the two so I pasted it also.

mini-me menus are really funky. Menu clicks sometimes cause mini-me to jump behind everything else, sometimes they even lock the cursor onto the skin and everywhere I move the mouse, the skin moves as well, and clicks on menus also go through the menu and click onto whatever is beneath it.

Similar to xstatics' post is music ex track info template does not show cover art.
Also was wondering if this is bug- when toggling from mega-me to full screen view MJ automatically selects vis' even if you had track info selected in mega-me.

I can not get ID3 tagging to tag multiple files at once. I select 5 files, change one field, hit save, get MJ has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. Other times MJ tells me it can not make the changes because files are in use or are read only or tagging is turned off in options - none of these conditions is true.
Hey Shotgun2, I see most of your posts here show you are using 8.0.226; this thread is for 8.0.227. Could it be that's why your bugs aren't appearing to get fixed?

Greetings Lads - Just to let you know that I am still (as usual with Versions 8) having resources problems, which I assume is the same as running out of memory. I have just added another 128Meg & thought that might fix it but it didn't!!! It appears to be associated with Visualizations. I find that if the visuals are happening when I listen to a track, sooner rather than later I run out of resources. If I re-boot, come back in & turn off the visuals = no problem! So I assume this is still a memory leaking thing?
Regards - Rusty.

Bug:
1. I tried the new Shift|PLS|Delete feature to delete from MJ's library while viewing tracks in Playing Now. The Confirm Action dialog popped up like it should and I clicked the Delete button. MJ deleted the tracks from its library and ...EEEEEK... from the harddisk!! The 'Delete files from harddisk' option was not checked (I sure). So, I tested it again and, now, I cannot replicate the problem. Still, I thought I'd report it in case it takes some special 'condition' to cause a harddisk delete to occur when it shouldn't.

WinXP, Microsoft Internet Pro Keyboard. If MJ doesn't have focus, the pause/play button works, but also launches Windows Explorer in the directory containing the keyboard driver files.
Yes, this is very wierd.
Yes, this is probably not an MJ bug.
But...
Windows Media Player doesn't do this.
Any clue where to begin looking.

This is where my brain had disengaged from the keyboard...
Whenever I try to create a media view, say Artist/Album, I always get the full track listing of the search criteria on the whole library, when I click the album nested under artist.
OK, so I have genre=[Classical]=[Gothic]=[Baroque] etc as search criteria
I have Artist/Album
In media view I get artists from all classical, Gothic and Baroque albums
But when I expand the view under say, Neville Dickie, I have all Albums that match the search criteria, not those pertaining to the artist.
Hmmm.. Looks exactly like the problem Lise reported, now I explain it to myself properly !
Thanks!

New in this version...I no longer can detect a CD-R drive. The detect button does not produce anything, beyond a box saying "Please wait while the program detects your CD writing". The "CD Writer", "Write Speed", and "Use generic driver" are all greyed out.
Howver, device manager, aspi, and other CD-R software (CDRWin & Nero) all see the drive, which is a SCSI Panasonic/Matsushta 7502.

MJ is sometimes locking up while opening file properties. It's happening often - maybe 2 out of 5 times I open the properties dialog.
Also, Import Files seems to be pausing during a long import cycle. I can't tell why it's 'stopped', or what files it was working on (since the display isn't refreshed), but it resumes by itself after a few seconds.

genre=[Classical]=[Gothic]=[Baroque]
Is that exactly how you have your search criteria set up? Because that's not right.
Try genre=[Classical],[Gothic],[Baroque]
That works flawlessly for me.
-
When I am in Genre\Artist\Album view, clicking on each Genre heading opens nodes that only belong to that genre, except Rock\Pop, which shows all files in the library.
-
Hi Doof
That worked a treat this time
Many thanks

Hi Doof
Is there a listing of operators and expressions whic can be used in the search criteria anywhere?
I have looked in all the obvious places, but no joy.
For example:
Is there an expression to use where you want to select all albums with the word "original" contained within the tag?
I have tried Album=[*original*] and a few other permutations and drawn a blank!
I also can't seem to make a media view using the user defined tag.

Retreiving cover art for several albums and lost organization tree. The only thing showing was a disc followed by '....'.

Ilmar> Check out this thread.

It's got a lot of good information about searches.
What you're after is album="original"
Unfortunately that will also return albums that have the word "unoriginal" in the title as well. Currently there's no way to enforce whole words only, but maybe if we bug Matt enough...

Re-encoding to MP3 device
I put in a bunch of MP3's to reincode to a MP3 player that shows up as a drive.
i started it, then i aborted
deleted all but one
re-started the re-encode and transfer
MJ kept trying to send all the files even if they were no longer in the que to convert
-
when trying to send files to the mp3 device on the second time
i deleted the files on the mp3 player, and selected another file, MJ no only sent that file but the original file to the player, that was not listed in the que.
the only way to fix this is to exit MJ and reboot it.

TV
when watching TV center bottom you will see channels < and >
if you click on up, the highlighted channel in the list to the left does not change.
also when you Hit channel "N\A" the < and > stop working

I always assumed that MJ couldn't read GIF cover art because it wasn't on the list of types when you do Add. Then today, I accidentally saved a GIF with the extension .jpg and MJ read it fine. Can GIF be added to the list of file types please?

I was ripping OK in this version. But now all of a sudden I can't rip at all (I can play OK).
I get the following error message for each track I try to rip e.g.
"READ TRACK FAILED UNKNOWN ERROR = 1"
Doesn't matter which disc I try, yet it ripped OK a couple of hours ago.

Bugs:
1. Some skins will only load from the Skin Manager and not from the mini-me right-click menu. When trying to load my LowerRight II skin from the Skin Manager, it loads fine. Attempting to change to LRII from the mini-me right-click menu yields the 'loading mini-me skin failed...reverting to default mini-me skin' error. Then, MJ reports it can't load any suitable skins. At this point, all I have is an MJ icon in the tray and have to stop MJ from there and restart.
2. When returning from mini-me to MEGA-Me, MJ does not retain the application focus...you have to Alt-Tab or click on MJ's window to manually get the focus back.
3. The mini-me 'Always on top' feature does not work...mini-me will not stay on top (ever, it seems...using Win2k Pro)
4. OnMouseOver event does not work (fire) for Slider controls (image or thumb)

Which encoder are you using? Does it work if you try a different one?

New in this version...I no longer can detect a CD-R drive. The detect button does not produce anything, beyond a box saying "Please wait while the program detects your CD writing". The "CD Writer", "Write Speed", and "Use generic driver" are all greyed out.
What was the last version of MJ that detected your drive ok?

Bug:
1. If you have a data CD burn list started and you drag-n-drop FOLDERS from the Windows Explorer to MJ, MJ only adds the music files contained in those folders (and sub-folders). If you drag-n-drop files (any type) from Windows Explorer, MJ adds them just fine to the data CD burn list. Ideally, you'd want MJ to add all the folders and their contents and maintain the directory structure (as dragged from Windows Explorer).

I am still having problems with MJ Importing files it has just ripped from a CD. There are an average of 3 songs per CD that MJ doesn't import after it has finished ripping to MP3s. This is really getting to be an annoyance as it substanially increases the time to rip a CD and MJ deletes the files it has just ripped, but couldn't import.
Also, after ripping, MJ switches to whatever the default view is. It would be nice if MJ would remain in the view that you have it in after it is finished an operation and revert to the default view.
Finally, When MJ is finished a ripping operation, can it give a report on the files that it was unable to import? Right now, if you aren't watching and writing down the songs it fails to import, you have to go through a tedious comparison process to determine what songs MJ didn't get right. The "copy" control window will show it, but it can't be expanded to show all files at once and if a failed to import file is out of view, then you have no record of the fact that it did fail (back to comparing the ripped file list to the CD list to see what is missing).

MJ gave this fault error after shut down. Was working with cd labeler just prior to this. Also had Media Jukebox.EXE error at the same time but could not paste both.

- In cover art in visualizations, black appears to be the transparent color. So if I have a background (flush) that's not black, it shows through the cover art where black pixels should be. (I could use a black flush behind the cover art, but it doesn't have an option to keep the aspect ratio.)
- I noticed I can select some files from the list view, right-click, copy, then paste into a text editor. But the fields that get pasted don't match what was displayed. (The heading is right, though.)
