I run my music thru my Xonar into a pair of monoblock tube amps...which I don't want to use for hours on end watching movies...
Is there a way for MC to automatically switch to say, onboard audio when I switch to movie playback, so as to output this signal to the tv or receiver and back to the Xonar when I play music?
Would be a sweet option!

Zoneswitch can be configured to do that; I currently use it for exactly what you're describing.

Just reaffirms JRiver makes the best media center on the planet!

Ugh!
Can you help me out with the setup rules for ZoneSwitch to do what you're doing?
TIA

This should give you an idea of the rules required:

Assume that Zone "1. HDMI" is the name of your audio zone, and Zone "3. Video" is the name of your video zone.

Use Media Type as a basis:
ZoneSwitch rule for your Audio zone:
[Media Type]=[Audio]
and set to Play in this zone: <your audio zone>, and also to Stop playback for the Video Zone.
ZoneSwitch rule for your Video zone:

and set to Play in this zone: <your video zone>, and also to Stop playback for the Audio Zone.

Okay, not cool...
Set it up, hit play, and volume jumped to 100%!!!!!!
Wtf?!
-
For some reason, internal volume got switched off...
Ouch!!!

Whatever you use to post isn't working right. See MrC's attachment.

Zones have independent settings (otherwise they wouldn't be much use) so you need to configure your settings for each.
Check that you don't have "Optimize volume for best sound quality" or "Set startup volume to 100%" enabled in the "startup" section, or if you are using WASAPI output, the "Maximize Device Volume During Playback" option found under device settings.
Edit: Sounds like you found the cause.

Thanks for the help...
Where do I set what output device for each zone?

Thanks for the help...
Where do I set what output device for each zone?
Tools > Options > Audio (you can select the zone at the top of the Options box)
To prevent forgetting to change to internal volume in the new zone (like I've done :-[), I recommend that you copy a zone that is already setup. You can do this after selecting Add Zone.

Thanks...got it and working perfectly :)
Now to see if I blew my speakers! Grrrr....

I see a subject. Not on Tapatalk. Did one of the forum admins add it in?

The last two posts have no subject.
