Title: Newbie: Another album import problem
Post by: gregmacc on September 28, 2013, 10:41:12 pm
Hi ... How can The Rolling Stones albums be displayed in artist view under "R" rather than "T" (without having to change the artist name)?
Thanks

Go to Tools > Options and enter Articles in the search box.

Tools > Options > Tree & View > Sorting > Check "Ignore articles (a, an, the)". Click "Okay".

This didn't seem to work for me (in version 19). It simply seemed to remove from the database all the tracks from artists whose names begin with an article. I disabled the option and manually imported the files back in to fix it.

It seems unlikely that checking the option Ignore articles (a, an, the) removed files from your library.  Probably they sorted differently, and you didn't notice where they were.  Maybe you can follow-up.

I thought it unlikely, too, but I sure couldn't find them in the database and when I re-imported them it said "imported xxx new files" for each artist and the number xxx seemed reasonable. So I would suggest at least doing a quick check if you enable that option.

I have the option set.  If you can try to repeat the process, I'll help you look around to ensure the items no longer exist.

I tried setting the option again and it immediately worked, with no apparent database losses. So I guess the effect I reported was the result of something unrelated (I have no idea what) and I only noticed it when I looked for certain artists after setting this sorting option. Sorry for the false alarm.
