I'd like to get a sampling of what skin people use most.
Thanks.

Voted Noire - but would love to have some better choices with the stock stuff...

I mostly use Noire now; I switched to it in MC19 once changes were being made to it for testing and have mostly stuck with it.
I do occasionally change to Black on Black though, if I'm watching a video in a window. (I often avoid detached windows, because there are no playback controls)
I don't really like that skin for library management though, it's too low contrast for list views.
In MC18 I was using a custom skin based on Fusion X3 that I had customized to look like the latest version of iTunes rather than iTunes 10. I prefer the flatter look it has to Noire.
While I use it now, Noire has always felt dated to me - all the stock skins do.
-
I voted third party. I use a version of Purity that I've made slight modifications to. It was really close to great.
-
I use PixOS- Noire is just too............Black :)
-
I voted Noire but at the moment I'm using Black on Black and I frequently use Purity. Each of these skins do something that I find useful...so I switch when I need to......like yesterday when I couldn't read the text in the Purity tree because of the light gray background (from the couch) so I switched to Black on Black. Noire and Purity get used the most.
FastKayak / Larry.

I have been happily using 'Black On Black' since it was first available.
-
Noire since MC19. FusionX4 prior to MC19.
-
Noire.. 2 reasons
1) Kinda like it
2) pretty much guaranteed to work

I use two standard view switch one is Noire.
Two is modify black on black by remove <GLASS><Data Enabled="1" /></GLASS> from main.xml^^.

I like the frenchified-ness of the old Henry Ford adage. Honestly though, most of the time that I'm enjoying MC, I've got album art visualised on the screen or am watching video output. In both cases, the skin is superfluous.
What would concern me most is if the layout and fundamental navigation methodology was changed. I know it's not mooted here but this question immediately brought to my mind the propensity of M$ to continuously change their operating system GUI, with little concern for user annoyance at dealing with another learning curve.
I think the approach that the MC team has taken is the right one, i.e. come up with a Henry Ford standard and give the tinkerers out there the flexibility to change the GUI to suit their personal taste. Leaving dinosaurs like me to wander around the Jurassic in comfort of familiar surrounds.

Purity
But could always use more options. 8)
-
Black on Black.
-
Pearl Bailey with red and green flipped for a few years now. Really like it.
-
FusionX4.
-
PixOS

In my view, straightforward “Blue Steel” does the white-text-on-dark-background thing better than any other combo.
My only moan is its lack (by default) of the 'audio path direct' button color change.
-
Albedo, my thanks to Alex :)
-
Thunderstorm for many many MC versions now...
-
My own skin design which is already on share.

"Aruba" with "Negative" effect applied. This is a deep blue skin with white font and still my favorite. "Noire" is nice and dark but more gray-scale than I prefer.
-
MC 18. Skin is purity.

Same here. I think Blue Steel is the second best after Black on Black.
I use Blue Steel on my Server (XP) and Black on Black for my HTPC.
It seems like there should be more options in the poll question.
-
I'm using MetroX by Maverick07 when I use MC at Dancing lessons. So this is how most people will see MC when I use it and because of that I voted third party skins.
At home I switch to Black on Black (using a batch file).
-
PixOs.... I hate change....
-
Black on Black :)
-
metro x
-
Black on Black :)
maggies and parasound.... sweet. how do you like it? Great combo, albeit a diametric relationship to my preference.
-
I use a old 3rd party skin (iTunes) modifed to provide a stop button. It has much lower contrast that the default Noire skin. That's important for my old eyes.

I'd be happy if JRiver offered a fully functional skin with low contrast.

PixOS
Of the stock skins it's the only one that doesn't stand out like a sore thumb on the desktop and has readable text everywhere
Ideally I'd like a native OS look and forget the 'look at me' stuff

If nothing else, I'd like a way for third-party skins to use the current OS color when running on Windows 8. (it adjusts based on your wallpaper)
-
Metro X - my new favorite!!
-
Another MetroX here. Nothing else will do now.
-
I loaded up MC 18 by mistake the other day...the Noire skin has really improved in MC 19, I hadn't realized how much the color and borders had sharpened up. Nice work!
-
I've been loving MetroX, too. At the moment, I'm running ModernSkin with added color, kind of a slate/blue/green. Love it!!
-
I use PixOs. Very readable and has mouse access to Audio Path when in Theater View
-
Other. Been using my own skin for years. Just Noire with some color changes to my liking.

FusionX4 most of the time just wish it had a stop button.
I'm interested what all you J River Folks use day to day.
-
I've been using black on black and purity... but I like the look of Contiums :)

Willing to share ? :)

All this discussion of skins lately had me reinstall my Fusion X3 Mod (http://www.abload.de/img/fusion-x3-modvglkh.png), and I have to say, it's so much nicer to be using a skin with less contrast, and OS-native buttons. (it's nowhere near ready for release, and I seem to have misplaced the version I had with iTunes 11 style playback controls) And now we have retina assets to deal with.
While I appreciate the improvements made to the noire skin, I do wonder if the default MC skin could do with a modern refresh.

Sure but no guarantees ;) Not a clue as to how to make a mjp.

Here is an .mjp file I used to install the iTunes skin:
---
[Package]
Name=iTunes
Action=INSTALLSKIN
Url=http://accessories.jriver.com/mediacenter/mc_data/plugins/765.zip
----
Just a text file.

Noire. The others don't have enough contrast. Noire is very readable.
-
metro X
-
I use Purity Dark on my client (desktop PC monitor) and LP on my HTPC (TV)
-
I use Black on Black :)

Thanks for sharing. The color scheme is awesome :thumbsup
To install - backup the current contents of c:\Program Files (x86)\JRiver\Media Center 19\Skins\Noire folder and unzip contents of Contium.zip to this folder overwriting existing files. Restart MC and new scheme should appear.

We use ThunderStorm. Have tried them all and keep coming back to it. Just feels right.
Looks like we are the first to post about using it. (I missed the post by Mark_H.) Oh well, I never did follow the herd!
Cheer,
Rod
-
version 18 with The Fly using the invert (negative) skin effect. Been my main skin for several years.
-
Black on Black and Purity are the best to me :D
Noire is good, but i don't like the White background
-
I just tried Purity and I would call it my second favorite to Aruba/Inverted, and above Noire and Thunderstorm. I think if I fiddle with the color palette I might just upgrade it to my main skin.
As said, Noire's got an awful lot of blanc on it, considering it goes around calling itself "noire".
-
I am using No.4, but seeing the comments above I have switched to Blue Steel. However, if the reason you are asking it to see the pain you will go through if you are planing a rewrite of the main module please go ahead. If it leaves us with just one useable interference for awhile then so be it. I can get used to Noire if need be.

Exactly - I've been using ThunderStorm for many many years now since the very first day I installed MC, from time to time I try the others but always come back to this.
-
PixOS with colors inverted. Check it out. Been using this for the last couple of years.
-
I'm using Noire too. It's easier for me to see where everything is.
