Title: License good for multiple computers?
Post by: cbreeden on October 10, 2013, 05:08:42 pm
Hi, I really want to purchase JRiver, but I am planning on purchasing a new HTPC in the near future and I want JRiver to run it.  If I purchase JRiver now, and put it on my two desktop PCs will I be able to put it on my HTPC when I get it in 3-6 months or so?  Or should I wait until I get my HTPC running and purchase it then so I can put it on all 3 computers.  I was under the impression that I need to install JRiver on all the computers I will be using it for within a certain time frame (like 30 days).  Is this true?  Thanks.

The licence is good for a "reasonable" amount of home PCs, three are no problem. The install key only works for a limited amount of time (2 weeks I think) but you can go the Restore page to generate a new key after that time. You are allowed 10 restores in one year. See the info at http://www.jriver.com/support.html (http://www.jriver.com/support.html) .

Thanks! I take that as a green light to go ahead a purchase.  I miss my 30 day free trial days! :(

I've been holding back on buying a licence as I wanted it on two machines.

I've recently tired to resurrect a Win XP machine to be the 2nd but can only get up to Media Centre 17 before the install fails. This is now a totally fresh XP install with about a solid 2 days worth of updates and patches.

If I cannot get MC 19 to install on the older machine I presume I'll need 2 licences and, for me, the project fails.

Is there a way around this - and/or are there known solutions to MC 19 on a Win XP machine?

You can install your license on any machines that are "yours", within reason.

Thanks for asking.

So - I can use my MC 19 licence to licence the copy of MC 17 on the 2nd machine?

That's not the impression I'd got elsewhere.

No, but you could put MC19 on both machines with your license.

That is exactly what I cannot do - at present.

Both MC 19 and 18 crash during the install process:

Sorry, I read from the bottom up.

MC19 works on XP, but requires a CPU with SSE2.  This means the CPU must be from ~2001 or newer (a little later for AMD).  Could that be the issue?

Yes - It's an own-build machine from centuries ago which has outlived a (VISTA) Toshiba laptop and HP 2133.

AMD Athlon - 1.25GHz,

As I am only interested in Audio - could I install and licence MC 17 on both machines.

The newer is a Dell XPs with touch screen so quite nice with MC 19.

What email address did you use to purchase MC19?  I can't find a record using your forum address.

Thanks.

I have now bought a licence for MC 19 for my Dell XPS.

Is there any way I can activate a copy of MC 17 that is the only version that will run on my older 2 machines?

I really just want to get one running next to my stereo that I can control and stream music to from my desktop. The older machines I'd hoped to use for this seem hardware limited from MC 18/19.

I'm unwilling to supply the e-mail address I used to register the software on open forum but I could supply this and/or licence code if contacted via the orange.fr with which I registered here.
