I am using any of Red October STD, Red October HQ, or Custom with LAV and MadVR all give the same results. I get hangs trying to used DVD menus especially audio track or scene selection. These are mostly music/concert DVDs. They all play perfectly fine in PowerDVD 13 and were ripped to folders via AnyDVD HD.
Any suggestions. I mentioned this a few builds ago in that build topic and have seen or heard nothing since.

Same problem here with most of the DVDs I try to play in MC. MC hangs every time. It happens with both RO and ROHQ.
In my setup, it happens to DVD files on external USB hard drives. Local DVD files seem to play fine, which is weird.
My workaround for now is to convert the DVDs to single .mkv files, but I would like to keep the original DVD structure with the menus.
I should add that DVDs play fine with VLC player, no matter where the files are located.

I am using an external hard drive for my library as well. That is where the DVD's are located.
-
Same issue for me. Invoke DVD menu, select something, MC gets stuck

Is it possible this is audio related?
As a test, please try using DirectSound and set the buffer time to something short (like 20ms). Does that make a difference?
If not, what's your video hardware?
-
I have tested yet. Late tonight probably. The GPU is NVidia 650 Ti Boost.
-
Matt,
Tried DirectSound with a 20 ms buffer and it didn't solve the issue.
Video card: AMD Radeon HD 6670.
Maybe I should add that blu-ray rips play fine with MC in my setup.

If you are running Red October HQ, I have had problems accessing DVD menus when it is set to force Film-Type deinterlacing.
Red October Standard has not given me any problems, and my "workaround" has been to play the disc in RO, navigate the menus and start playback, stop playback and then switch back to ROHQ and resume playback from the last position. (it's a huge pain, but I rarely need access to DVD menus as I mostly rip with MakeMKV)

Standard Mode does not fix it. So it is not a MadVR specific problem.

As do my Blu-ray rips

The DVD I tested played fine when copied to the local drive, menu was fully functional. Hangs when menus are navigated on the external USB 2.0 3TB drive where my library is located.

gtgray,
So this issue seems to be related to external USB drives for both of us.
Could it be related to specific hard drives ? (by the way, mine are WD 3 TB My Book).
-
Good detective work. Since JRiver uses the Microsoft DVD Navigator to parse the DVD file structure, it may be difficult for us to fix a problem it has with certain file systems.
Are you both running WD My Book drives? Does switching USB ports make any difference?
-
I am also experiencing this same problem.
Although none of my rips include menus MC hangs if I try to advance chapters. If I let movie play it will eventually hang also.
My rips reside on external 3TB WD Mybook via USB 3.....
I have tried this drive on Windows 8 machine and Windows 7 via USB 2 and 3 with no luck.
I have also removed drive from WD external case (to eliminated WD's encryption) and tried in external dock WITH NO LUCK!
Have since gone back to a WD 2TB drive and everything plays fine. Very frustrating..... at the least.
Waiting patiently for a solution ?
