I have asked a few times, and don't really get any answers...and since this is the only support outlet, I don't know what else to do.
They only seem to happen if I use .ts file system.
I have a 6 core AMD 3.5Ghz CPU, and a WD Green 3 TB drive.
About every 1-5 minutes, I get weird glitches in the video of recorded TV...it's kind of like an image will start looking pixelated (extremely), and then finally clear...but it is only on part of the screen.
I did not see this behavior on Windows Media Center for the last year that I have been using it...just switched back to JRiver now that it supports my hardware.
I am happy to run any tests/etc that is needed, but I don't think I should be getting these issues. And the .jtv file format isn't really workable for me, so that isn't an option.
-
Are you saying the default format JTV works correctly?
-
yes...at least in the limited testing I have done. Using .ts, I don't think I have seen a single show record without these glitches...however, I recorded 2 shoes using .jtv, and neither of those have issues.
-
JTV is the default.
If it works well, I would recommend using it. It's what I use.
-
that's great...but it really doesn't work for me. I like to archive a lot of shows, so I need to compress them...I might be OK with the extra harddrive space if it was an actual file, and not a directory full of chunks. It makes it hard to organize the file structure of my drives.
Why isn't jtv made into a container file or something, as opposed to just writing 6 bazillion files?
Also, if I use jtv, it locks me into only watching them in MC...if I could change the format after the fact, I wouldn't care, but I can't seem to find a way to do that.
-
recorded in JTV last night again, with no issues...does anyone else use .ts, and if so, does it work as expected?
-
Are you using hardware acceleration? Try disabling that.
-
Hardware Accelerated Graphics under General|Video Card is set to Automatic
Hardware accelerated Video decoding is checked under Video|General Video Settings
Which one should I disable...or both?

Hardware accelerated video decoding.
-
OK...it is changed...I'll let you know how it goes.
-
it didn't help. It's very frustrating!
-
I am testing on an Intel/Nvidia based system that I have at the house, to see if it makes a difference.
-
The Intel system was worse. It is an Ivy Bridge i7 at >3 Ghz...is this just a fundamental flaw in the software? Why can I record in JTV just fine, but not TS????
-
What version are you using?
-
so I just found the convert option under tools...assuming that works (testing now), is there any way to automate that, even by an API or command line argument? If I could set it up to convert all the files overnight, then I would be totally happy.
-
the version was 19 build 50-60.
It looks like you responded at the same time I was posting...is there any way to automate the convert tool? If so, that would be an acceptable alternative.
I would also be happy to send over a .ts file that has the glitches so you can see...although it would be large.
-
I have not given you direct replies because I do not know what was causing it. I did make a few changes in TS recording but I guess there are still problems. On Monday I will post a special build of a dll for you to try. It will produce a lot of log lines and a huge log file. I hope you will then find a way of sharing it with me.
-
I can either use dropbox, or I have a website I can upload it to and send you a link. I appreciate you looking into it.
-
Please download this dll. (https://www.dropbox.com/s/33u9zfi1pe5mgez/JRTelevision.zip) Copy it to MC installation folder.

You can select all the files you want to convert, right click and click Library > Convert Files. It will convert all the files you have selected.
-
Thanks...I know that I can do multiple files...I was just hoping that there may be a way to automate it so that I can convert without my interaction.
ALSO,
Is there a way to make custom profiles for encoding? And...it looks like there used to be an option to delete the source file, but I don't see that anymore...is that no longer an option, or am I just missing something?

Downloading now...is this just for logging? If so, do you want a log from the beginning of a recording to an end? (IE: an hour or so long)
-
Here is a log:

MC crashed right as it was finishing up.
-
Thanks for the log.
I asked for the log so I can determine whether MC dropped some packets incorrectly. I did not find any such dropped packets. Since your device is a HDHomerun Prime, the streamed data is very clean and there is no need for MC to drop anything. That is the good news.
The bad news is that I therefore still do not know what caused the video playback problem. Did you verify that you did have the problem with the recording that you sent log for?
You can try setting up MC to play .ts file using Microsoft DVD-DTV video decoder, instead of LAV Video Decoder, and see if there is any difference.
Also please provide a sample recording for me to test with.
-
I didn't have a chance to check the recording, but I will check it out tonight when I get home...and once I verify that, I will get the files to you somehow...thanks.
-
It seems that the recordings I made disappeared...not sure why...maybe when it crashed? At any rate, I just did the test again, and verified that the problem happened...at about 1:33 into this video. I am also uploading the new log...here are the 2 links. However, it will be a while before it is done uploading (Filezilla says about 3 hours, but will sometimes flash to 6).
The interesting thing is, if I play it back in MC19, it has this pixelated look...if I do it in WMP, it kinda just hangs for a second...

OK, the 2 new files (see post above) are finished uploading. Thanks again.
-
any updates?
-
I see on your recording what you described - pixelation once in a while. It happens with either LAV video decoder or Microsoft decoder. So the problem is not in the decoder. However, I still do not see any dropped data from the log.
Do you see the problem only in recorded file? What about watching the channel live? I am guessing watching live would be fine since you said that recording in jtv format is fine.
I will post another DLL for you to try in a moment.
-
yes, live is fine...and also when I record in JTV (which I have been doing since the problem developed). Only recording in .ts causes this problem.
-
Please try this DLL (https://www.dropbox.com/s/33u9zfi1pe5mgez/JRTelevision.zip) and provide another log.
