Title: Newbie - Mac Mini and MC: ripping CDs to FLAC
Post by: beaverlake on October 31, 2013, 09:23:13 pm
This is sooo basic I'm almost embarassed.  I've got a new Mac Mini all set up and attached to my network and the Internet.  I invested in an Apple CD drive.  I'm ready to start re-ripping my entire CD library into FLAC files.  I've search the web and Interact - how in the heck to I get MC on a Mac to recognize the CD that's in the drive and start ripping?  (I'm running the latest Mavericks and I just downloaded MC for Mac and I set the CD to open MC when a disk is inserted - after dealing with the new security for apps!).

I suspect I'll crawl into a hole when someone points out the intuitively obvious and simple answer but I do need help.  Any pointers to an MC for Mac "users guide" or "For Dummies" greatly appreciated.

Update:

I can play the CD through MC, but there is no "rip CD" option showing in the Action Window.  Every reference in the Help section starts with the assumption that the "rip CD" option is showing in the Action Window.

Any recommendations for a third-party app?

While I do enjoy MC, the no ripping in both MC18 and 19 is an annoyance. I have a pc on my network, and use Foobar to rip (it does batch conversion of other formats too), then I just access the disk from my Mac. This avoids drive Format issues too. You could run Foobar in Parallels on the Mac if you don't have a pc on your network.

I along with many others use XLD which I think was free but if not worth every penny.

Ken

Then that precludes me strTing a new thread on how to rip in MC for MAC as I was about to do prior from seeing this thread.

Can anyone lend insight as to what to expect when enable?  How does it stack up against other tools for ripping and tagging. Is it easy and intuitive?  Is it a secure rip?  Does it provide any type of report on the results.
