I have had Media Center for years. When my old computer crashed, I decided to download the latest version to my new computer and add files. What a shock. Not the old Media Center I once knew. It automatically downloaded thousands of files when I only wanted APE files to start. What happened to the nice compact setup on the old Media center. I am very disappointed and may just go back to Windows Media Center. ( I just downloaded the trial version but was planning on buying it.)

Welcome.
The basic layout of MC hasn't changed since version 12. If you provide more specifics, we might be able to help.
You can configure import file types in Tools > Import.

My version might have been version 6 or 8. I liked it so well, I just didn't update. Was a big fan back then but now I can't seem to do anything with it.

Actually it was Version 10. I just pulled it up on the old computer which works occasionally. Sure would like to have that exact same program on my new computer along with all the files.

You can clear your library and set up the rules you want for auto import. See "Getting Started" in my signature.

Windows Media Player has always been a particularly strong option.

There must be a joke there somewhere.

I agree :)

If you give the new version a chance, you will see how much more it can do. It might be best to try and think of it as a whole new program. I have been using it since version 12, but have bought each version as it came out. MC19 is VASTLY superior to MC12 in every way, and I know this despite having seen all the improvements gradually crop up. The temptation is to hold onto the old way of doing things because it's what we're used to. Give it a chance. :)

Okay, I am convinced. I think I can live with the new version so I will buy it.

Glad to hear it. Start another thread if/when you need help with anything that's new to you.
