Title: On Debian Wheezy x64 (no longer) having a few issues
Post by: InflatableMouse on November 12, 2013, 02:20:53 pm
I replaced LMDE for Debian Wheezy today (x64) and followed these steps detailed here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=84915.0) to get it installed and working.

Menu's are no longer very transparent and seem to work fine.

More importantly, audio is working  ;D

But:
Drop down menu's are detached from their parent window
Resizing the main window takes ages. It doesn't move smoothly but more importantly, it takes minutes to recover from a resize.
Moving the main window behaves erratically. Sometimes it just jumps around or even out of vision. Moving it slowly seems to help.

Question:
Is it safe to connect to my library server?

Thanks!

Which desktop?
As for the moving and resizing, I think we are sampling too often. It's on the todo list.
I don't get detached menus on XFCE.

If in doubt, turn off library server sync in media network client options (when connected to a library server).
You have a backup, right  ;)

Of course I have backups  ;D

Desktop is LXDE.

The pulldown menus are strange, they sometimes appear all over the place. Like the sample frequencies in DSP Studio under output mode. These also appear too small, with space for less than one character.

If you need anything (logs?) let me know.

Thanks!

LXDE build? I'm not sure. It's what came with Wheezy, 7.2. Package version says 4+nmu1  :-\

Debian is 64-bit:
Distributor ID:   Debian
Description:   Debian GNU/Linux 7.2 (wheezy)
Release:   7.2
Codename:   wheezy

Sorry, I meant MC build.
Anyway I'm just posting 19.0.74 so if you could give that one a try it would be interesting.

Installed the new build and I'm on xfce now too. Lxde is nice but doesn't have the configuration options xfce has.

Anyway, pulldown menu's no longer appear all over the place, but when you open a pulldown and move the parent window, the pulldown remains where it appeared, it doesn't move with the parent window. After that, I was unable to make a selection and the windows/pulldowns wouldn't close anymore.

I can't get sound anymore  ?

Not sure if its related but I connected to my library server, tried playing something and it said it couldn't start playback. Went back to local library which is now also not playing anything anymore. I tried different outputs, different sample frequencies ...  ?

Tried another program sound is working normally.

Ignore that. I think VirtualBox was preventing MC from playing.

Either way, its working again :P.

I upgraded to Jessie/Testing just now. MediaCenter works as before with no special treatment.

In fact, the entire upgrade was painless, I only had to reconfigure my panels as they were reset in size.

I'm still going through the logs of the upgrade but so far it looks good, nothing weird.

Perhaps the xserver for wheezy wasn't too good for the stable distro.
I am running a somewhat funky version at home, still on stable but running a backport of the jessie kernel and Xserver to get the haswell video working properly.

Your hardware is too new  ;).

Why not just upgrade to Jessie all the way?

One of the reasons for me was a bug in Thunar file manager, it sometimes took up to 30 seconds to open it.

I don't think jessie (testing) gets timely security updates..
