Title: Ripping CD to FLAC - does it help to optimise settings?

Hi All,

Now that my system is finally worth listening to (thanks to a QuteHD DAC), I wonder if I should go back and re rip my CDS?

Why?

Part masochism, the other curious to know if the rip settings can be tweaked, including speed, error correction etc.

I use Easy CD for this.


Any ideas?

The big question is - did you originally rip your CDs in a lossless format?  i.e. Windows Media lossless, AIFF, Wave, FLAC etc.  If not, then you will get improved sound quality by re-ripping using a lossless encoder.  If you already have them as lossless tracks and they are an exact copy, then you are good to go.

If you're not sure that you have an exact copy then you could do some tests with something like dBpoweramp CD Ripper which will check your rips against a database of other people who ripped the same CD.  This will tell you if you have an exact copy.

Ah, thanks, I should have said that I used FLAC at the best settings.

I'm thinking more of the error correction and rip speed settings during the rip ...
