Title: AMD Announces A10-7850K Kaveri APU
Post by: hulkss on November 23, 2013, 02:01:45 pm
Maybe a good choice for an HTPC build after Xmas?

http://wccftech.com/amd-announces-a107850k-kaveri-apu-specifications-architectural-details-launching-14th-january-512-gcn-cores-28nm-steamroller/ (http://wccftech.com/amd-announces-a107850k-kaveri-apu-specifications-architectural-details-launching-14th-january-512-gcn-cores-28nm-steamroller/)

512 on chip GPU cores should mean no graphics card needed.

Nice looking MSI MoBo for it: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/A88X-G43.html (http://us.msi.com/product/mb/A88X-G43.html)

Bump.

Anybody building a new HTPC? This looks to be high performance and very affordable.
Never used AMD. Any comments?

I would like to see a review first. If it can do 1080i 29.97 with JINC3 upscaling, I am sold.

Now that they have been released, anyone planning on build a system based on this APU? The graphics performance in the reviews looks impressive, the CPU not so much  :(

I am building one next week.

I looked at Kaveri and although I can buy the cpu and components to build one myself, I'd rather want it in a AIO solution because good HTPC cases are scarse and expensive. Since barebones with the A10-7850K are not (yet) available here I'll stick to my original plan and buy an Intel NUC with i5/HD5000. My plan is to use 2133mhz memory (Corsair Vengeance low voltage).

Anyone have one of these built yet? Interested to know the JRMark score.

Micro Center has the A10-7850K on sale (in store only) for $129.99 up through 2/9/14 (verify on their site if they have them in stock at your local store).  Hopefully this is OK per forum rules, else please delete ::)

Thanks for posting that.  I had to look up  APU (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_Accelerated_Processing_Unit).

I am building one as soon as the case arrives. I will post my thoughts once it is up and running.

A10-7850k
Asus a88xm-a motherboard
8g crucial 1866 memory
240g crucial m-500 SSD, no other storage, all files on NAS
Creative sound blaster zXR sound card.
Corsair CX750m power supply, overkill but it was on sale and I want the power in case I am not happy with the GPU and want to add a video card.
Antec fusion remote case
