It seems like MC doesn't support tagging of MKV-files, instead it creates a sidecar-file. However MKV should support tagging?

Hi Elvis,
I don't know for certain but it looks like MC is tagging MKV files in addition to using Sidecar files. If you open Tags on an MKV file you can see plenty of tags. It looks like the Sidecar files are used for tags that are not officially support by Matroska. For example 'Filename', 'Replay Gain' etc. The Matroska tagging spec is fairly strict (http://www.matroska.org/technical/specs/tagging/index.html).

Hmm, It doesn't seem like it for me, I added just one tag on the "official list", that is "artist", a sidecar-file was made immediately, and when i tried to play the file on a MC-install on another computer without the sidecar-file, the artist was not populated. IT also should write non-ifficial tags to the MKV-fiels imho, MKV supports custom tag-fields.

Yes, the Sidecar file is created when you add or change a tag but on my system it works fine if you close MC, delete the tag and then re-open - new/changed tags are still available. Strange...

I think it is stored in you library for that MC installation only, It was the same for me, but if i tried to open it on a different computer (with MC), the info was gone.

You could be right. I have just noticed also, that there seems to be no tags in my wma files. ?

Bump
It seems to be not just MKV-files, why doesn't MC tag video-files that has native tagging support?
