Seriously, MC v19 is an awesome HTPC media center for sitting on the couch and viewing nearly any media imaginable. The achilles heel of any media center these days is the human user interface.
I have a Rii Mini remote that has both RF and IR capabilities, a keyboard, and a gyroscope (like a Wii remote) which is just about as versatile as you can get. However, it is not easy enough for my mother-in-law to use (the ultimate test).
If you had a single big button on a remote that triggered a "listen" capability, that you could then issue reasonable voice commands, that would be awesome. Like hit button and say "Play rock music" or hit button and say "show me kids movies" or "play my Seattle Music playlist" or "Next Track"
Then maybe, just maybe, my mother in law could figure that out.

It's not quite as neat as voice commands, but you might try an MCE remote.
MC in Theater View is designed to be controlled by up, down, left, right, enter, and the Green button. Your mother-in-law should do well if you tell her to only use those six buttons.
