Title: Now that Winamp is dead, noob has some questions...
Post by: Dogger Dog on December 26, 2013, 09:36:45 am
As you know, AOL finally cut Winamp, which I've been using since the early 2000s.

I bought MC 18 a while back in anticipation of needing to move over to something more robust. For the most part, I'm happy. Some questions:

1). I do NOT like stacking. How does one go about disabling it? I'd rather MC just re-encode my FLACs to mp3s temporarily somewhere, and then delete those files once they're pushed to my phone. Winamp did this by default. I have a low capacity SSD as my OS hard-drive, so there isn't a lot of room to spare to hold these "stack" files.

2). I had a great Winamp lyrics plug-in. It was a separate window pane, and it was very clean, simple, and uncomplicated. Does anyone know how to install one for MC18? None of the hits I found through web search were simple to follow.

3). Bluray viewing. Can MC18 play back BR discs? How about BR-A or DVD-A?

4). Cover art. I do NOT like MC going to the web and finding my cover art, which it seems to be doing. Over time, I have carefully selected my album art from albumartexchange.com, and always save 1000 x 1000 jpgs into each album's folder as "folder.jpg." I took a lot of time to do this (approx. 700 albums). I can't seem to figure out how to get MC18 to stop pulling down its own album art, but instead using the ones I have in each album folder already. Is there a universal setting I'm missing?

5). I have a ASUS Xonar Essence, which I love. I can't find any posts on maximizing settings for use with MC. Does anybody know of one? I use BeyerDynamic headphones 50% of the time, and Logitech desktop 5.1 50% of the time. The sound through the speaker system seems processed/unnatural. Not sure how to describe it, but Winamp never did this.

Thanks!

DW

#1: Under Tools → Options → File Location → Conversion Cache there are options which may do this. I'm not sure, as I don't use portable devices with MC.

#3: Yes, but you will need software (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Blu-ray#Requirements) such as AnyDVD HD to play them.

#4: Check your auto-import settings. (Tools → Import → Configure Auto-Import)

#3: Yes, but you will need decryption software (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Blu-ray#Requirements) such as AnyDVD HD to play them.

Note:  SlySoft has AnyDVD HD on sale right now for 20% off.  ;)

Thanks to both of you! You guys are a lifesaver. I already have DVDFab Passkey (mainly for DVD Audio Extractor), and it works great with MC18.

Thanks again!
