Title: Welcome to work, Hendrik
Post by: JimH on January 01, 2014, 06:52:40 pm
By the time you read this, it should be Thursday, January 2.  It's your first day at JRiver.  We're very very happy to have your help.  Thank you.

Matt took the "flu" thing seriously and really got it.  So he probably won't be around until Monday.  That means that you can pretty much do what you want.

My first request is that you look up madShi and buy him a beer and a brat, and tell him thanks from JRiver.

I hope you enjoy your time at JRiver.  I certainly have.

Except for the flu thing, that's all awesome!

Sorry Matt.

Welcome Hendrik, I'm excited to see what you can bring to MC in this great new year!

8:30 am and i showed up to work in time!

I have a few things on my personal wishlist, and since I don't know any better, I'll simply start working on those until someone else tells me otherwise. =)

Welcome Hendrik!
Hopefully your JRiver office is warmer than ours.  It's -5 Fahrenheit outside this morning, and since we turned down the thermostat while the office was closed, it was only 56 in the office this morning.  Can't complain though, in the northern Minnesota town of Embarass this morning, it's -46 (-43 Celsius)!!

Its 7 C / 44 F outside, and inside a comfy 21 C / 70 F. It helps when you live where you work, it doesn't get cold, not even on your way to work. :D
I hope Minneapolis heats up a bit until Februay though, so I don't freeze in the streets somewhere. Although I do have planned to go buy a new winter coat, just in case it doesn't ;)

-5 F is already colder then we usually ever get around here.

I had to look this up because I thought it might be a joke.  Not the best name for a town  :-[.

My first day is nearly over already, but I feel like I already made MC a bit better.
Of course I was just jumping through a few topics, even into Gizmo for a while, but I'm sure I'll find a more coordinated plan for stuff to work on soon!

Maybe Matt should take a few extra days off - just to be sure he is fully recovered.  ;)

Pick a list of bugs and fix & improve them and anything resulting from them:)

This has been said before, but there are a *lot* of outstanding bugs.
One of the best ways to learn about a new (to you) project's code is IMHO to fix a bug or three. Coding new features is all well and good, but you'll inevitably bring your own coding style to the table. Looking for and fixing bugs lets you bounce around the existing code and hopefully give you a much better idea of how it all works.

Yeah I've been looking for some of those old bug compilation threads to pick a few from the list.
I'm a bit weird and actually like digging through code to find a small bug, sometimes even more then writing new functionality, since new code usually also includes a lot of boring boilerplate as well.  ;)

I usually do not respond to non factual topics, but I wanted to say that I am pleased to see that the revenue made by the JRiver sales are well spent, although I rarely use the video features of MC, and when I do my grandchildren complains that MC is showing the iPhone QT movies of them in the wrong orientation... Best of luck and a prosperous new year for you and the rest of the JRiver team!

Here is a nice list of requests, but the first sentence links to his (updated?) bug list also.  I think it gives you a lot of different types of things to look thru in a concise list.

If you want a "simple" one, how about a remux option so I can convert my jtv recordings into something others can watch without all the interlacing nasties.

You are free to get the cold weather out of the way during January, so it can get warm in February when I'm in your parts!

Yeah, in February, we actually get outside a little.

Very glad to have you on board officially, Hendrik.  I think you'll be an amazing addition to the team.

We got some record lows at home this week.  Highs in the negative Fs kinda lows.  But, we've been on a trip (driving home right now), so it didn't bother me so much.  Of course, Gettysburg gave Maine a run for the money last night (it got down to around -10F).
