Title: Why not show playing now in Gizmo when playback is stopped?
Post by: Mastiff on January 10, 2014, 02:47:56 pm
This has been one of my big wonder why's in a nice, little program that I use every day as a remote control for MC. Why not show what file MC is stopped on, and why not give us the opportunity to see Playing now without starting playback of a file that it's impossible to know what is before it starts?

I think mine does that.   Press and hold the home icon in the upper left corner to get to Playing Now.

There is a new option to keep the screen showing when Gizmo is active.  It's under the menu button.

Hi, Jim! Happy new year. :) Mine doesn't. I have the latest Gizmo and the new MC 19, and when I go to the Playing Now screen in Gizmo, I see the cover of the track that MC is stopped on, but not the name or a button to open the Playing Now list in Gizmo. Under the cover it says "Gizmo" on one line, then "You're on the bus" and below that there is a button with "Resume playback" on it. Only when I press that I see the name of the playing track and the button, which is what I would like to see without starting playback first. Come to think of it I would like to see all the transport buttons, just like when playing, instead of a rather unhelpful message telling me I'm on the bus. If I can see the track name and other info I think it would be rather self-evident that I'm on something! Just like a lot of people in Colorado are now...legally!  ;D

Another thing that can be very annoying, at least to me, is that a short press on a track in an album logically should have added that track to Playing now (or at least play that track), but that it does is to play that full album, starting on the file you click. That can be rather annoying, especially when it's a Podcast series with 500 short podcasts or when I have spent ten minutes adding tracks to a Playing now by clicking and holdning on separate tracks from a bunch of albums and then touches a single track by accident... ;) For me it should work like double clicking in MC, so I can choose to set up either Gizmo or MC to take a short click on a file in Gizmo as "add to playing now" or "play", and with that track only. Would that possible?

Originally, I asked Mastiff how the weather was.

Funny boy! ;) Well, man, then. I guess you deserve to be called that. Actually, yeah. We're expecting about one meter today, tomorrow and Friday. Seriously! Hasn't been as much as 5 cm so far this winter, but now it decided it would all come at once. Around 10 cm so far, and it's getting thicker. So I fired up my trusty, old Volvo tractor yesterday, and it hasn't seen any action since last winter. But now it's ready to do our large front yard and 60 m of access road to the house! So now that your curiosity is satisfied, maybe you could satisfy my thirst for Gizmo change? :)

It is not a joke. Matt is in hospital in intensive care fighting for his life.

That one's not on me! That link wasn't Jim's original message. He wrote something else first (edit: which I answered about 10 seconds later, so he probably didn't see that I had written an answer before he changed his message), and I had no idea about Matt.

Sorry.  I asked Mastiff "How's the weather there?" to try to distract him, but then realized he didn't know about Matt.  Sorry, Tor.

No worries, Jim. I can take being chewed at by a young whippersnapper (at least on the forum) as long as I know I'm right. ;) Very sorry to hear about Matt, I added my message to the main thread. :( Crossing my fingers here!

Hendrik is working on Gizmo right now.  You could bother ask him.

Sure, I will pester ask him! Thanks!  ;D

Edit: Btw they have upped the ante now from a meter to possibly one and a half! This is getting amusing, especially with all those big rigs from Eastern Europe with lousy tires... They're going have to stack them from here to Oslo for the rest of the week! And I got a set of Nokian Hakapellita 8 for my car today, the world's currently best dub tires. Same as I bought for my wife earlier this winter. So I don't worry about a thing no matter how slippery it gets!

:P You've only been here since 2010, you know. Look at my seniority... ;) Besides I'm used to being in the older group on any tech site, now that most birthdays I go to are the big 5-0!  ;D

I posted the essence of your question in the thread on the main board discussing recent changes to the playing now screen:

Lets see if others feel similar on the matter.
