Title: ALAC-Tagging slow!

Hi!
On my prehistoric Laptop (XP, 1.7 GHz) MC 18 runs fluently with my RME Fireface 400.
The Problem: Since I converted my FLAC files to ALAC (iPhone etc.), tagging is terribly slow. CPU load is on 100% for several minutes, no matter if I just change genre or add a new cover art...

Question: Is this problem ALAC-related, or is it that my machine is just to old?

I'm thinking the latter here, which is ironic because last night I set MC to mass edit the tags of all 59,000+ ALAC songs in my music library, and it didn't take more than a few minutes after which the CPU usage went down to normal.
