I'm new here, so if this has been asked an answered, please point me to the topic and I'll remove this post.
I have a CAPSv3 Topanga server outputting to an amp and speakers. What I want to do is use JRiver as a client on a laptop to control Media Server on the CAPS. Right now when I do this, the sound comes through the laptop's speakers instead of the audio system. On the other hand, when I use Remote Desktop to access Media Center on the CAPS, the sound goes where it should.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's a thought.
Step 1:
MC Wiki - FAQ (Read First) (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=86940.0)
Step 2:
WebGizmo (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/WebGizmo)

I did look there, although perhaps not with sufficient rigor.

You can use one copy of MC to control another. It's called "Tremote". The wiki has information. Start at "Remotes".

Thanks. That did it.

Another solution could be to use "teamviewer" to control MC on your caps from another pc.

In the Thread i found only up to year 2010 entries, so I am wondering if it is working the same way now with MC21?
The description however is rather thin and a bit confusing. Is there somewhere guide how to do it?
___________
I tried Microsoft RPC (Remote Desktop on Win7). Its rather bad compared with the Sun Solaris of 1985!!
It blocks your remote computer etc.
I tried Teamviewer. Good, but a bit clumpsy to handle. However much better than Microsoft RPC. Wake on LAN works perfect.
I used to work with Citrix, good, but not for private use I guess (licence fees high!!)
Definitively I would prefer just to run MC21 on the Client computer and run MC21 which is connected to the DAC on the HTPC (Server).

Yes, it works the same way. Did you try it?
Make sure Media Network is running (in options).
On the client connect to the server, using the Access Key.
Choose "There" under Playing now.
Play what you want.

Hi Jim
okay, great.
I tried and could go someway.

My configuration:
ServerPC: Headless HTPC, Win7, MC21, Library connected via USB HD (later on will be NAS)
To this Server, connected RME Fireface UFX via USB: This is the DAC to output the sound
Client/Control PC: Win7, MC21
Server and client connected by Ethernet (cable or WiFi)
What I want to do:
Have the MC21-Gui on the Client/Control PC.
Play the files actually on the Server PC.
Output of ServerPC shall go to RME Fireface UFX DAC, connected to the ServerPC via USB.
What I could do:
- Server: Configure ServerPC to be MC21 Server
- Server: Assign Library and generate key
-Client/Control PC: File/Library/Library Manager: I could assign the library with the key
What did not yet work:
It also looked as I would play from the client library and not from the ServerPC library.
Playing the file did not go to the Server MC21 and to the RME DAC connected to the ServerPC
Question: How to configure that the output of the played file goes to the ServerPC and RME DAC?
Good would be a help-file, may be a pdf with picture/screenshots to illustrate and a drawing of the topology.
Does that exist somewehre?
best regards
Peter

At this point, you should connect to the server's library from the client. Can you do that?
On the Media Network page on our wiki, read the section called "Ways to Connect".

Hi Jim
okay, I read it and try.

Hi Jim
I got it working.
Loading the library was okay. The point was to see the playing device, the DAC.
The remote DAC connected to the remot HTPC shows up in the client-PC where I run the JRiver GUI under
"Playing Now"
In fact as I understand, all playback devices are listed there
The new device is listed under the name "There"
This took me a while to understand.
The source fuiles are listed under "Playing Now/Playing from Main Library"
The there is: "Main Library". the remote HTPC Library (I loaded with the key) and "Add Library"
It plays now from whatever library to the DAC connected via USB to the remote HTPC.
I may put together a small manual, how to upload here?
