Title: Suggestions for USB to HDMI adapter for Hi-rez/MC via HMDI to AVR???
Post by: tenbeersbold on January 28, 2014, 04:52:29 pm
Hi! My notebook doesn't have an HDMI out so I was wondering if there are any USB to HDMI adapters that actually support hi-rez/MC over HDMI audio.

I've researched a few but most top-out at 2ch LPCM

Or am I better off just getting a new notebook w/ built in HDMI output?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

if your objective is hifi jitter free output, converters aren't the way to go. at best you could get a USB DAC then output to receiver or amp, but then you'd have to use an available display output, whatever that might be.

I've never seen one.

If so, it would have to be USB3, as USB2 doesn't have the bandwidth to handle full quality HDMI.  And, if your laptop has USB3 but not a decent digital out (DP or HDMI), then...

Well, you chose poorly.
