Recent update (19.0.108) would crash every time I change video files.
Please fix.
-
There is already a fix coming for this in an upcoming build, please have a little bit more patience, and sorry for the inconvenience!
As a temporary fix, you can disable "Hardware accelerated video decoding" in the Options under Video, it should stop it from happening.
-
Thanks for the quick reply, and the work around.
Looking forward to the next update.
-
19.0.111 is available now:

Jim,
Still broken, crashed on video switch, please fix.
-
Just tried .114, still crash
-
I got the log file, where do I send it in?
-
logs at jriver.com, thanks!
-
same for me Hendrik. Hung after stopping video (blue circle still) log file probably wont be any good as it just hangs doesn't actually crash

When it hangs, the best thing for the logs is to let it hang for a long time and see what happens (at least 5-10 minutes). If it ever "unsticks" (even for a millisecond or five) the log may show the long-running thread which could help track it down.
I don't know if it'll help in this instance (it sounds like madvr is crashing), but it might. That's generally just good advice.
-
cheers ok i will do that and post a log
-
if you guys want me to try a new build to help you sort this out let me know.
-
If you're feeling like experimenting a bit, maybe you can try updating madVR manually to the latest version?
Maybe its something that got fixed. I tried updating it, and I've been pressing next file for 10 minutes and nothing crashed or hangs, but then this could still be random.
Simply get http://madshi.net/madVR.zip and unzip it into "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 19\Plugins\madvr"
If you want to revert to the version which comes with MC, you can simply delete the folder and MC will install its own version again.
Let me know if anything changes.
-
ok i have just sent a log file from earlier when it hung....left it for 10 minutes and terminated it via (mc19 has stopped responding message)

Tried it, still crash. I'm playing video from playlist. It crash on both occasions, when I double click on a new video, or clicking next.
Sent log.

Hendrik
Just a quick update for you.
I removed the old version of Madvr and copied the latest version in its place. Unfortunately problem is exactly the same. Hanging straight after stopping playback in theaterview and either pressing back or something else. MC19 does not unfreeze just windows blue circle.
-
I have just tried running latest build without MadVR but using red october standard and the hanging stops...... so it must be something that madvr now no longer likes in the MC19 code? However it does still crash occasional log file sent over to you guys.

Dave

Do you have "Automatic Display Settings changing" active? (In Options -> Video -> Display Settings)
If yes, does temporarily turning it off help at all? (Just trying to find a cause here)
-
just unchecked it and although it still hangs same sort of place pressing back after watching video . Is it worth me sending you a log as it did actually crash once just a moment ago?
-
So just to be clear, unchecking it didn't change anything? Probably don't need a new log then.
I'm still puzzled why it only happens for some people. The majority doesn't seem to have any issues, or there would be far more complaints.
-
whats changed since build 104? This works absolutely fine.
-
Without being able to reproduce the issues, its really impossible to say what changed. It could be anything. But the problem just doesn't happen for me. I tried on 3 different PCs, with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, with AMD and NVIDIA cards, no chance of it crashing here...
-
nope on my server running nvidia hardware unchecking the automatic display settings didn't make any difference but turning off madvr and using red october standard did stop the hanging issue.
-
Hi,
I have this issue since updating to the build 108. Previous build worked fine. Automatic display settings change is inactive. Using Red October HQ - default settings.
When it hangs windows 7 gives the following. Happy to send a log across if it will help. Or try out any suggested fixes.

You could try what i suggested above:

Have you consider a problem with antivirus software:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=86096.0
The Weird and Wonderful thread has more. There is a link in my signature.
-
My antivirus is turned off and why if it is antivirus that it works ok on a previous build?
-
Uninstall it to be sure. Disabling it may not be enough.
It can happen that the AV feels fine about one version and not another. Settings can also differ.
-
Cheers Jim i will do that and post my results
-
No luck with reinstalling madVR. I'll try some of the other suggestions and report back!
-
unistalled av tried again and same issue. Crash log sent to logs@jriver.com
-
There is separate issues here.
Most reporters here are having issues with AMD cards and Hardware acceleration in ROHQ, which is something i can reproduce sporadically, and will hopefully find a solution for sooner or later.
For those issues, you can just disable hardware acceleration in the settings, and you'll go back to the same behavior as in 19.0.104, which didn't suffer from this.
If you are having stability issues using Red October HQ with an AMD graphics card, i strongly suggest to disable Hardware accelerated decoding, which will bring you back to the exact same behavior as before 19.0.108.
If I cannot find a solution soon, I may forcefully disable the option again for AMD cards when using ROHQ.
daveyravey1972 has some other issues which seem unrelated, since he is running NVIDIA and even has problems in RO Standard.
-
I for myself have a hang/crash when mc is running, tv turns off (automatic), turning on tv again-> mc crashes.
Also, AMD GPU -> ROHQ
But this behaviour exists since MC 19 arrived, was a problem for me in MC 18 too.
MC 17 (on the same system) -> NO problem.
Tried until now:
updating GPU driver, uninstalling antivirus software, MC 19 latest version.
It's not a big deal (don't turn off the tv very often, when mc runs), but it's a little annoying and it's not happening always.
I would say 3 out of 10 tries -> no crash (seems that it depends on what kind of media is playing at the moment)
-
Just wanted to comment that the latest version (19.0.117) seem to fix the crash.
Thank you. Very good support, keep up the good work.
-
Hendrik i found a reason for the crashing on my nvidia set up.
I was running a theater view theme linked below
http://sirganty.deviantart.com/art/MetroX-Theatre-360970673?q=gallery%3Asirganty&qo=0
This once installed seems to crash every build after 108. I dont know what has changed but it is definitely this. I have started to use the default theater view skin and no more crashes after stopping playback, pressing the back button etc.
Could you fix ?
regards
Dave
-
Thanks for letting us know, I can at least try to reproduce it now, which increases the chances of fixing.
-
This should hopefully be fixed in an upcoming build:
Fixed: Theater View Skins with a video background could cause Theater View to hang or crash.
Once I can reproduce the issue, its usually easy to fix. I should add that to my default questions, if someone uses a different skin. ;)
-
I'll add it to the Troubleshooting guide.
