Title: Bit rate on classical music

I'm using Exact Audio Copy to digitise my CD's using FLAC. I've set the FLAC encoder's rate to its maximum (1024 kbps) and some jazz and rock albums run about that rate according to JRiver. However, a lot of classical albums run at about 350-550 kbps. Anyone know why that should be? Is it just that the music is less, er, dense?

Why not use MC to rip your CDs (assuming you've got Windows)?

You may be trying to do "uncompressed" FLAC, but that's really no improvement over lossless FLAC or any other lossless format.

MC's ripping is as good as any other program's, and a little less complicated.  You might try it.

I think the answer to your question has to do with the "compressibility" of the music. If there isn't much going on, like lots of relatively quiet periods those parts can be compressed more than some rock song which has a lot going on throughout the song.
