Hi,
I purchased JRiver because of its audiophile sound quality. I have moved most of my audio processing (upsampling, room correction, speaker setup) from various audio components to HTPC and It sounds better than ever before.
Anyhow my audio is fine, but my video quality is lacking :) I watch mostly HDTV recordings on 100" screen and all picture imperfections are quite obvious. Some of them can be resolved with video post processing. I'm impressed with effects archived with ffdshow & madvr combination showed here http://www.ezoden.com/684/tutorial-htpc/18 .
So my question is can I use ffdshow as a video postprocessor?
How can I set that up? Can it be used before or after madvr?

Ps.: Have you thought about selectable upsampling and dithering algorithms for audio section like in HQ Player (sygnalyst.com)? In some configurations it sounds a bit better to me :)

Red October HQ uses madVR which allows you to select different scaling algorithms, and the new version (not yet included with Media Center, I believe) also adds some post-processing options to increase image quality. (debanding and NNEDI3 image doubling/quadrupling)
The noise reduction and sharpening examples used in that guide look terrible, in my opinion. Very overprocessed.

So there is hope for the future in MadVR development :)
I was counting on some way of using ffdshow in a video chain as it has ability of using avisynth scripts. Thanks to that processing abilities are wast (let say similar to vst plugins for audio).
In referred examples the biggest improvements for me are in shadows. As for the sharpening it needs to be adjusted for viewing distance and screen size so I'm not concerned with these particular settings.

Lav as a decoder for everything
Ffdshow as a raw post processor
And madvr as a renderer

JRiver MC does support custom filter chains. I can't say for sure whether what you specifically want is possible, but it does seem flexible so there is a good chance you could get that to work. LAV decoding will work for sure, madvr as a renderer works for sure, ffdshow as a post processor is the only part I'm not sure of.
