Now that Google has released the Chromecast SDK, are there any plans to support it? I use mine all the time. Would love to be able to play my JRiver content over the device.
-
The SDK only supports Android/iOS or Chrome itself, not arbitrary applications.
In short, this means we can make Gizmo support it, and play its content on the Chrome Cast instead of the phone itself, but from what I've seen, not make MC directly control the Chrome Cast without the phone in between.
-
Gizmo support would be the main thing I would want.

+1 to Chromecast in gizmo
If that could happen. Could it pull from a jriver server?
-
Ditto!

Gizmo pulls all its video from a MC server streaming it, so this would be no different.

Doesn't look too difficult but I'm not a developer so what do I know?
And I can report that Chromecast audio is bit perfect at 16/44.1. I wasn't able to get 24/96 to play at 24/96 though.

I could "run" leapCast but it did not get it to work. But i didn't see any errors. So i don't know how to make it work.
Oh well.
-
+1 chromecast support would finally fill that gap that i still have to use Plex + Roku channel for!
-
Another vote for chromecast in Gizmo.
Please make this happen devs ;D

Just got a Chromecast.
For 35 bucks it is a very impressive little gadget. If you already have an AV system and Android phone it is a no-brainer to get one.
I like the fact that it almost makes a smartphone a full remote for the TV. I've read it can even turn on the tv using an HDMI protocol, but I have explored this yet.
Gizmo support would be great. It would probably Chromecast make the cheapest possible solution for connecting a JRiver library to an AV system without dlna.

I'm experimenting with Chromecast in Gizmo. Not sure when it will be ready, but probably not that long.
-
Great news! Thanks Hendrik!

Chromecast has finally arrived in Germany, the UK and several other countries. Works just great, but I am dearly missing support for mediacenter. Any news on this?

I just got a Chromecast and can't wait for support for it to be added to Gizmo :)

Just got my Chrome Cast yesterday and it's great! Very easy to use. Just a shame I can't get access to my media library through it - I could do away with a whole PC if I could Chrome Cast with gizmo! Any news on when we might be able to get hold of the updated gizmo with Chrome Cast support??
-
Ditto for this. Just got one, and liked it so much I bought another for a different room. Gizmo support please! :)
-
Playing to a ChromeCast from Gizmo is mostly working now, just a bit polishing and possible error handling to do, and we'll start beta testing it soon.
-
That's great news. I got a Chromecast a couple of weeks ago and I am so impressed with it. Simple to set up and haven't had a single problem with it. Streaming from BBC iPlayer, Youtube and also from my media library using JRiver MC and BubbleUPnP is working great. It would be really nice to have Gizmo support it as well.
-
This might be a bit premature in asking. But will we be able to use chromecast as a zone from jmc in the future?
Thanks and welcome back!

No, you will not - not unless Google offers a way to do that.
As of now, Google only wants mobile devices (Android and iOS) or their Chrome browser to access ChromeCast, they do not offer a way for a normal desktop application to talk to the ChromeCast.
-
It would be possible if Gizmo was also a DMR like BubbleUPnP. You could then have a tablet or phone set up with Gizmo to play to Chromecast, and have Gizmo as a zone in MC. If Gizmo supported lossless audio and 1080p video, it would be that much better.

I don't think that would work because you will not actually be playing from Gizmo to Chromecast. Chromecast will be the DMR and Gizmo will just be the DMC (the controller). All the controller does is tell Chromecast where to get the media content from and once that is acheived then the controller can be turned off. If Gizmo acted as a DMR then the content would be playing on the Gizmo device.
I use BubbleUPnP on my Android tablet to play content stored on my MC server to the Chromecast. Once the playback has started on the Chromecast I can turn the tablet off and playback continues just fine.
As far as I'm aware there is no facility to send content directly from a device to Chromecast.
-
Technically that is how ChromeCast always works, you tell it which media to play, and it'll grab the media directly, it doesn't pass through the phone at this point, the phone only sends control commands.
The only difference is if you use Chrome to send a browser tab, it actually takes a live video of your browser and sends that to the ChromeCast directly.
-
I see thanks for the info.
-
Great news, thanks for the development of this feature!
If you need an additional beta tester I have a Chromecast in my system up and running and am handy with Gizmo and MC networking.
Thanks, Phil

Would it be, at least theoretically, possible to use the MC Chromium browser to connect MC to the Chromecast via some sort of pass-through plugin? I'm not really familiar with exactly how MC and Chromium/IE work together to begin with. It seems like this would be doable, barring things like development time and all that from the equation....

This should be working in the next build (19.0.134 or greater). Thanks to Hendrik.
