Title: How do I fix tagging errors?
Post by: Djeayzonne on February 24, 2014, 11:35:00 am
I am currently using the trial license, but I think I want to keep this.
I had my entire library rated in Itunes, and I lost all of that after upgrading, since it wasn't tagged, just information Itunes kept.
I am willing to go through this painful process again if it will be more permanent this time.

Anyway, after a listening session, when I come back the next day to the computer I receive all these tagging errors for specifically the tracks I had listened to and rated. I checked permissions, and it was initially set to read-only access. I changed this for all music files, but the error continues.

Please help.

What kind of music files?  Do tags other than the ratings get written properly?

MP3 files mostly. A couple of OGG, but like less than 10 of all files.

The only thing I am trying to do is rate as I listen, so no other tags should be involved.

Thanks.

Are these local files or on the network somewhere?  Did you try closing and reopening MC after you changed the file permissions?

Local files, different drive.
I thought I did, but I will try that and update.

That did not help.

If MC can't write to the files, unless they are damaged, you have a permissions issue.  Try renaming one file, using the Rename, Move & Copy tool.  Keep the directory the same, but just make a minor modification to the name.  If this fails, you have a permissions problem.  Many folks are (rightly) confused by Windows permissions.

Yeah.  They really should have a "This is my home computer and I'm not concerned about terrorism" setting lol.

Yes, but how do I resolve the issue?

This is hard to answer in a forum, because its like playing 20 questions.  Do you want remote help?  If so...

Go download TeamViewer QuickSupport:

   http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/index.aspx

Launch it, and it will give you a user id and a password.  PM those to me when you're ready for me to connect.  I'll connect remotely, and we'll take a look.  You can cut the connection at your will.  I'll explain what I'm doing via Chat as we work.

Ok, got it sorted out.  It was an ownership problem.  The drive was moved from one system to another, and of course the owner ID was now incorrect.  Had to take ownership of the folders.

The fun was me learning about the Win 8 permissions dialog changes, all in what I think was Chinese.  Good stuff.
