Title: how to identify what blu-ray audio I am hearing?
Post by: gerall on March 04, 2014, 04:53:02 pm
I am new to jriver and playing mkv files - is there a way to identify whether the output is DTS MA or  dolby tru hd? I didn't install the dts decoder, so I assume on blu-rays I am getting the core dts audio only. Also, I am using the internal volume, but the level of playback volume level is lower than playback in Power dvd - not sure if this can be remedied.  thank you>

You can check the Audio Path in Media Center, it'll show the current audio format.

Not sure whether gerall is after this info but you can select the audio stream if there are multiple tracks. Not unusual for a DVD to have multiple audio streams and the default may not be desired.

Bring up the context menu during playback (i.e. "right click") and navigate to:
    Streams

The stream data will show the video codec(s) above the line and audio codec(s) below the line. Check marks indicate the selection. Change to suit as required. Refer attached pic for info.

Regarding audio volume level, this info is probably relevant:

I run Audio Analysis and setup audio for Volume Levelling with Adaptive Volume Analyser engaged via DSP Studio. I'll leave you to research the Wiki and check your setup. Hope that helps. There is a bit to work through.

I think, and I could be wrong, but I think it is now in the OSD as of just the last couple of builds.  I'm not in a place where I can check right now, though, and won't be until Sunday evening.

Its not, although fitbrit would like it to be!

Ahh.  Maybe I just remember him whining.   ;)

For the record, I'm with him, though I don't care a huge deal.

That might be a quote from my ex-gf.

Actually if I'm not mistaking u r right, it is. With bluray playback the OSD shows the format of the stream like dts-hd ma…but for a dvd the OSD only shows for instance english1, english2, english3 instead of PCM 2.0, DD or DTS which is particularly not practical for concerts or music dvd.

If then one is not bitstreaming the Receiver won't show either which format is playing ---> why the audio path view in theater view (font size) would be very helpful
