I typically setup a media server for people with client/server access via MC installed on laptop/netbook. The number one complaint that I get is that there is no way to set a default zone other than the local device's "Player" I've seen a few threads and requests on this and it seems crazy that the solution is to use ZoneSwitch (and for example set it to ALL AUDIO etc.) An even "worse" solution is to use linking.
All the elaborate bells and whistles added to MC over the years have been great but PLEASE add this feature.
Thanks!

Can you explain what your goal is?
Media Center starts up with the last-used zone active for me.

That's odd it never has for me? The only way it starts up ready to play to the last zone is if I close MC with that zone highlighted.

Under Tools > Options > Startup > Startup Interface, make sure that it's set to Location: Last Location
I also use the split view for Media Center, so perhaps that is affecting things.
I keep the left pane dedicated to all of my zones, and the right pane dedicated to all of my library views.

Thanks, that might work but I would consider that (in my opinion) another ugly workaround for something that should be a simple settings option.

Well I don't know that the split view is necessary, it was just a suggestion if that setting doesn't work for you.

Thanks. I think split view is necessary / when you close MC that zone must be highlighted in the left pane otherwise it will start with local Player zone. The startup setting is to return you t where you were in terms of navigation not zones...

MC does remember your last playback zone without any special view setup.
I just switched to my secondary zone, played some audio file and then closed MC. Started it back up, second zone is still active.

Hi Hendrik. Two questions:
a) Are you running with client/server... ie. MC running connected to remote library?
b) When you exit, are you exiting with something other than Playing Now / your zone, highlighted? If I exit with the zone highlighted it stays when re-opening but if I haves something else highighted such as a particular playlist it re-opens to Playing Here
Thx!

a) I tried both, remote and local library. Note that my playback zones are all local zones, did you try to play to a remote zone?
b) I exit at various places, in some part of my audio library or on some playlist for example (not playing now!), and it keeps the same zone.

Hi Hendrik. Thanks for checking. Yes my zone is remote and this is how I setup for most customers. This must be the difference. Do you think there is any logic was to why behavior would differ?
Thanks!
-
That narrows it down. I'll test again in a bit to see whats happening here, and if it can be fixed.
Important to note is that it would only ever work on the zones from the remote server you're connecting to - those prefixed with "There:", any other zones are discovered on-the-fly and won't be available soon enough to remember them.

Hi Hendrik. Have you had a chance to look into this? Thanks!

Sorry self-bump again as this is important to me and others. Thx.
