Hi, I am currently using version 19 on my desktop computer. Can I use my HP Slate 7 tablet as a remote so as to play at a distance? If the answer is yes, what must I do to make this happen?
Thank you

It's an Android tablet? You have a few choices:
1. Download the Gizmo app, which is JRiver supplied and is an Android remote control for MC.
2. Use WebGizmo, which is a browser-based remote.
3. Download a UPnP/DLNA controller app such as BubbleUPnP.
4. Use VNC, Splashtop or another Remote Desktop-type app to hook directly into the main PC's desktop to control it.
For 1 and 2 you'll need to enable Media Network in MC. 3 additionally requires the DLNA server and renderer to be enabled.
See http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes).

Hi csimon, thank you for the quick response. yes it is an Android and I will try out your suggestions tomorrow and give you feedback. One question is webgizmo different than the gizmo? I already have gizmo installed.
Thanks again

Hi csimon, I just checked the jriver site and got my answer to the webgizmo.

It's similar but not a native Android app. You can try it in any browser going to the URL <your PC IP address>:52199 I think, if you haven't changed the default port. OIr in MC, go to Tools/Options/Media Network/WebGizmo and select Open With Web Browser.

Hi csimon, the tablet is doing what I was hoping for but not what I asked for, let me explain. I said I wanted to have my tablet act as a remote but what I was hoping to achieve was to play songs from my main library from my tablet at a distance and going the WEBGIZMO way did the job. Thanks again and perhaps one day I might want to go the full remote way at which time I will download the other softwares.

I don't think I understand what you mean. What do you mean by "at a distance"? Gizmo will indeed let you play music from your main library at a distance, in fact it works in the same way as WebGizmo and the other remotes that I mentioned.

If you haven't read them yet, please read the wiki topics on "Media Network" and on DLNA.
A tablet can be used to choose music from your server and play it to MC on another PC or to a DLNA device. Or it could be used to play music from a server to the tablet itself.

Yes, Gizmo will do that and so will the other remotes. What is it not giving you?

Hi csimon all is good with Gizmo, I must have been sleeping at the switch when I tried the first time. Thanks to all for your support.
