Post by: Thomas Li on March 31, 2014, 10:04:06 pm
I had a AcerMedia Hybrid TV BDA Tuner worked perfectly with MS Win7-MCE for DBV-T in Taiwan. Now not working in JRiver MCE19. Fail in scanning channels. Error message showed  "Failed to load frequency table". Can anyone help me to solve this problem? Thanks!

Not good to hear that you're having problems.

1stly, it's always advisable to get specific. What model is your tuner?

Searching the AverMedia site for DVB-T, TV Tuner and the keyword "hybrid" gives me this:
http://avertv.avermedia.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Action=search&Kind=Product&interface=3&signal=2&keyword=hybrid (http://avertv.avermedia.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Action=search&Kind=Product&interface=3&signal=2&keyword=hybrid)
So, what have you got?

In my case, I've got an AVerTV TwinStar A825 (http://avertv.avermedia.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=491) and I've proven that it's functional, so I've got some confidence that your problems can be resolved.

What driver updates have you done for your tuner?

You could always take a look at Device Manager and see whether it flags any problem.

Another possible issue is that M$ MCE is locking the tuner somehow and not making it available for MC. That one's a bit beyond me - I'm running Win 8.1 so MCE is not supplied by default and I wouldn't opt for it anyway. I live in an MC household.

I'd expect that you'll have another contributor come along and offer some specific advice but until then, some basic checks and data gathering will at least be carrying you forward.

Thank you Astro. My Tuner is A827. I updated to the newest driver, unfortunately still not working with the same error message.  :-[

Note the comment about Microsoft's Media Center Edition.

We need to create a frequency table for Taiwan.  Do you know the frequencies of DVB-T channels there?  If you can provide some information, I will create an entry in the frequency table.

We need to create a frequency table for Taiwan.  Do you know the frequencies of DVB-T channels there?

Only from what Wikipedia tells me:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_channel_frequencies#North_and_South_America_.28most_countries.29.2C_South_Korea.2C_Taiwan_and_the_Philippines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_channel_frequencies#North_and_South_America_.28most_countries.29.2C_South_Korea.2C_Taiwan_and_the_Philippines)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_in_Taiwan#List_of_channels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_in_Taiwan#List_of_channels)

Can't vouch for the accuracy of the data but for this sort of stuff, Wikipedia is normally pretty good.

I updated Frequency Table with the following channel info. Works fine now. For Taiwan DVB-T digital TV I can locate 20 channels. However the channel info have to mannually update with my own input. Hope this can help Taiwan JRiver user.

I made some changes to the table provided by Thomas.

   <Country Bandwidth="6" NetworkType="DVB-T" CountryCode="886" Name="Taiwan Region">
   <Channel Freq="177500"/>
   <Channel Freq="183500"/>
   <Channel Freq="189500"/>
   <Channel Freq="195500"/>
   <Channel Freq="201500"/>
   <Channel Freq="207500"/>
   <Channel Freq="213500"/>
   <Channel Freq="473500"/>
   <Channel Freq="479500"/>
   <Channel Freq="485500"/>
   <Channel Freq="491500"/>
   <Channel Freq="497500"/>
   <Channel Freq="503500"/>
   <Channel Freq="509500"/>
   <Channel Freq="515500"/>
   <Channel Freq="521500"/>
   <Channel Freq="527500"/>
   <Channel Freq="533500"/>
   <Channel Freq="539500"/>
   <Channel Freq="545500"/>
   <Channel Freq="551500"/>
   <Channel Freq="557500"/>
   <Channel Freq="563500"/>
   <Channel Freq="569500"/>
   <Channel Freq="575500"/>
   <Channel Freq="581500"/>
   <Channel Freq="587500"/>
   <Channel Freq="593500"/>
   <Channel Freq="599500"/>
   <Channel Freq="605500"/>
   <Channel Freq="611500"/>
   <Channel Freq="617500"/>
   <Channel Freq="623500"/>
   <Channel Freq="629500"/>
   <Channel Freq="635500"/>
   <Channel Freq="641500"/>
   <Channel Freq="647500"/>
   <Channel Freq="653500"/>
   <Channel Freq="659500"/>
   <Channel Freq="665500"/>
   <Channel Freq="671500"/>
   <Channel Freq="677500"/>
   <Channel Freq="683500"/>
   <Channel Freq="689500"/>
   <Channel Freq="695500"/>
   <Channel Freq="701500"/>
   <Channel Freq="707500"/>
   <Channel Freq="713500"/>
   <Channel Freq="719500"/>
   <Channel Freq="725500"/>
   <Channel Freq="731500"/>
   <Channel Freq="737500"/>
   <Channel Freq="743500"/>
   <Channel Freq="749500"/>
   <Channel Freq="755500"/>
   <Channel Freq="761500"/>
   <Channel Freq="767500"/>
   <Channel Freq="773500"/>
   <Channel Freq="779500"/>
   <Channel Freq="785500"/>
   <Channel Freq="791500"/>
   <Channel Freq="797500"/>
   <Channel Freq="803500"/>
    </Country>

What I did was to add more entries according to the wikipedia site linked by astromo.  Also I consolidated some frequencies.  For example,

<Channel Freq="542000"/>
<Channel Freq="543000"/>
<Channel Freq="544000"/>
<Channel Freq="545000"/>
<Channel Freq="546000"/>
<Channel Freq="547000"/>
<Channel Freq="548000"/>

These are just within the 6 Mhz band of channel 26.  They are therefore replaced with a single middle value of <Channel Freq="545500"/>.  MC will scan with this frequency, and a small amount up and down from this to try tuning to the channel.

Please let me know whether this change makes it better or worse.
