Title: Can anybody help?
Post by: philifa on April 03, 2014, 05:15:39 am
I have both iTunes and JR Mediacentre 19.0.117 on my computer. I listen via an HRT Microstreamer (USB DAC) using WASAPI into my hifi. Today I downloaded a high quality recording to listen to. Using iTunes the track sounded wonderful with a silent background. When I listened with mediacentre their was an almost constant crackling and popping going on in the background. Eventually after trying a few things I got around to changing the driver in mediacentre from WASAPI to direct sound and all was well again with totally silent backgrounds on both iTunes and mediacentre.

I would prefer to use WASAPI as I believe it is of higher quality and was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and, more importantly, found a solution?

Cheers,
Phil

The most common cause for this is the buffer size being used.
Check Tools → Options → Audio → Audio Device → Device settings… → Buffering

Depending on the device, sometimes increasing or decreasing the buffer size will help.

Thank you. First tried increasing the buffering but this made no difference. So, reduced buffering down to 25 milliseconds and hey presto....silent background. Many thanks.
