Title: Auralic Vega Asio vs. Wasapi
Post by: Mark Manner on April 06, 2014, 10:39:35 am
Using JRiver 19, usb to Vega, I have two choices in JRiver, both labelled 'Auralic USB', one Asio one Wasapi.  Any opinions on which I should use? I have mostly pcm of varying bit/frequ 16/44 to 24/192, and some DSD64.  So far both work to transfer everything over bit perfect. I don't use JRiver to transcode anything, other than bitstream dsd vis DoP.

In general, ASIO if available will give better sound quality than WASAPI.

I have also heard in general that Asio is preferred, but would like to find some specific information about Asio vs. Wasapi with the Vega, if anyone has it.  They both sound fine to me, no perceptable difference for what it is worth.

FWIW, I have had other Vega users suggest ASIO as the preferred for the Vega specifically, provided no drop-outs happen. I have been using it exclusively for a few weeks now, and it works perfectly.

You have probably seen this:  http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Output_Modes

Of course, your ears are the final arbiter.  I think that with my DAC (Lynx Hilo), ASIO gives better results, but maybe the Vega is different . . . or maybe I'm fooling myself.
