I am very pleased with the JRiver MC. I'm moving from WMC7 and I find show and movie playback on JRiver to be dark and sometimes jumpy--like the video is trying to catch up. Audio drops out for a moment regularly also--subtle but annoying. With Shark 007 codecs in WMC it was smooth, in-sync, and problem-free. Is there a way to default to the Shark 007 pack?

I'd suggest that you start with describing your problem in further detail and work through MC's on board capability. Here are some starters:

You shouldn't need to use some non-standard codec pack. If you go down that path, I'd suggest you do so in concert with some key players from here who are very clued in to the various video/TV aspects of MC such as Hendrik, Yaobing and glynor. I have confidence you'll get where you need to get to .. ;)

As far as actual playback is concerned, I think the Shark 007 codec pack is mostly just a repackaging of LAV Filters - which is built into Media Center, and the developer (Hendrik) is now a part of the Media Center team.
If you are using Red October HQ, try switching it to Standard.
Try toggling the Hardware Acceleration and VideoClock options too.

I've removed WMC from the OS (turn features on/off) and removed the Shark007 codec pack--this improved playback probably due to a wonky conflict. I am using the .127 MediaCenter version and playback is better. Still some occasional jumps but better.
