Brand new user and I searched around best I could but couldn't find an answer.
I've deleted some files from my library, but they're not being removed from the handheld device on sync. I try to force the sync, but it says there are no changes.
I checked the "Delete from Handheld any files not in sync list" option, but I'm syncing all music files, not using a playlist etc.
-
It is, somewhat obnoxiously (though understandably, I suppose), pretty conservative about deleting files from handhelds. It has been a while since I've used it, but that doesn't sound all that surprising.
You might try making a Smartlist that includes all the files you want to sync (you can just make the Smartlist [Media Type]=[Audio] if you want).
Sync that.
Not sure if it'll work, but it would be worth a shot.
-
OK, I'll give that a try. Having played for a little longer, it doesn't seem to be picking up any changes to sync. I noticed a few tag errors which I corrected in the library. Sync hasn't noticed any changes. Bit disconcerting considering this was my main reason to purchase...

I just tested and it is working for me.
I synced a Smartlist of two albums (Sgt Peppers and The Fall) to a test folder. The Handheld is set to:
* Delete from handheld files not in the sync list: YES
* Enable album art: YES (though likely irrelevant)
* Resync if Date Modified: YES
Conversion:
* Convert to MP3
Sync List: My smartlist I made for the occasion.
Then, I changed:
[Artist] = "The Beatles" to "Beatles"
On Phoner to Arizona I changed the [Year]
On Revolving Doors I cleared the [Comment] tag.
On Hillbilly Man I added a [Lyric]
On Detroit I cleared the [Rating]
Then rechecked the Sync, and it immediately found those, and only those changes for the sync. See attached pic.
-
Yep. The deleting is working for me too.
I then Removed the four Gorillaz songs I altered above from my Library entirely. Clicked Recheck Sync and did it, and it removed those four files (see attached).

Could it be an issue with the MTP device then, because it's definitely not working for me?
-
I'm going to leave this for now, but "for me", Media Center 19 is just not doing what I would call syncing with an Astell & Kern AK240. It does an initial copy to both the device and an SD Card inserted into the device, but subsequent to that initial copy, it is not syncing any changes. Very happy to work with anyone on the dev team to drill down if it helps...

I think that's likely it. Can you put the device in Mass Storage mode?
-
It only appears to have MTP mode, so I guess not. It's disappointing, because MC is the only piece of software (that I know of) that recognizes and syncs DSD files. It looks like I'll just have to manually drag and drop to the device. That was my sole reason for purchasing it (that and its ability to tag DSD files).
I appreciate all the help though...
-
Don't give up hope yet. Might be something else going on.
MTP mode is a PITA though (not just here, it is just an annoying system). But, did you try the Smartlist idea? Because I was using that for all of my tests.
-
Yes, I tried the smartlist, made no difference sadly... I've even tried wiping the device internal and SD storage to blank and resyncing, once that's done, it's back to square one.
-
Bummer.
One last thing that might help the JRiver folks figure it out. Select the device in the Tree inside MC, and right click and choose Dump Info (or something like that). Then, come here and paste it.
Thanks.

* Resync if Date Modified: YES
Wait, where is this setting. I can't find that anywhere...

Yeah, you don't have it turned on from your screenshots, and that's required to get the behavior I posted about above.
Tools > Options > Handheld. Select your device from the dropdown at the top (if you have more than one).
Right next to Delete from handheld any files not in sync list and enable album artwork. I'm not 100% sure that the option shows up with all MTP devices, though. It is possible that MC can't tell what the date modified is for some (or maybe all) MTP devices? I'm not sure, I'm totally guessing. But look there.
-
Don't have that option, so I *think* that answers the question then. This whole MTP thing is pretty weak I have to say. I wish the darn drives just mounted with drive letters, then I'd have any number of sync options.
Well anyway, I greatly appreciate all the offers of help, and as I said, if anyone from the dev team wants to drill down further with this device, I'm very happy to help (I work in the world of software too, so I get the issues). It's a high end device I guess, but as it's one of the few that supports DSD, AND JRiver likewise, I'd hope they'd like to get to the bottom of the issue.
Best regards,
Wayne

If it has an SD card, you could probably sync to it directly if you removed it and inserted it in your PC. It's not as convenient, but it might work.
MC can treat any USB stick or memory device as a handheld. Tools/Options/Handhelds.
We're talking to the A&K team, so things may improve.

One drawback with this method is that Unicode characters in the file name are not supported in the transferred Playlists since Unicode characters are replaced with the ? character. This is obviously only a problem for some non-English languages.
A work around I found was to export the Playlists separately out of MC19 as a M3U8 type Playlist, which does support Unicode characters and then edit the path therein to suit the playback device.
A Handheld sync option to retain Unicode characters for USB "handhelds", as now happens automatically for other handhelds, would make it easier for dealing with the MTP device sync problems.

JimH,
I also have several problems with my AK240 in combination with MC19.
Did you already have contact with Astell & Kern.

A possible workaround is to manually replace the MTP device driver in Windows with a USB mass storage device driver.
Device manager-> right click the device and select update driver. Select 'browse my computer for drivers' and then choose "Let me pick drivers to install". If the USB mass storage driver doesn't show up in the next box, you'll need to uncheck "show compatible hardware" and locate the generic usb mass storage driver.
I should stress that this is not a sure bet, but has been shown to work on other devices that do not have a MSC mode setting. If it does not work you'll need to do the same steps and reinstall the MTP driver.

Hey BryanC, thanks for the reply.
I've tried this before and it didn't work. Windows 8.1 refused to install. With your description I wonder how to locate the correct driver. To me it also seems to easy. Can this realy work? Do you know what the correct name is.
I'd wish the combination of iRiver and JRiver would work.

Any improvements to this due in MC20? Would be a great reason to upgrade...

lowwhistler,
I have contact with Astell & Kern. I've reported several problems at the correct person.
I have faith that they will solve these issues. I don't know which part of these problems are from JRiver, but I think mostly from A&K. And the MTP mode was there by design, can't be changed. BIG dissapointment,
But hey, the AK240 has delicious sound quality, only it's not flawless.

Thanks for the update. I've pretty much got the sync fairly stable with Media Monkey, but would prefer to use JR
