Title: My name is Jim. I'm a glasshole.
Post by: JimH on April 15, 2014, 12:24:29 pm
Google is selling Glass to the public now.  It may be for just a short time.

I bought one.  I'm ashamed of myself but look at how cool everyone looks on that page.

When they initially announced the Glass, I was excited and probably might've bought one, but luckily I couldn't, since now I don't really feel much for it.
I guess it might serve more purpose to people who use much more of the "social" web of late, and constantly have to be present on Twitter/Facebook/Google+/...

I am somewhat excited for the new smart watches though, as that might actually be useful.

There is some sense to this sort of tech, even considering the privacy issues.

I'm seeing an increasing prevalence of video recording for vehicle users and bicycle riders, mainly driven by the potential for an incident and the legal case that follows.

Who needs to write down details after a collision? These days, the first thing that comes out is a smart phone to take shots of the scene. Pen and paper to take details is secondary.

I would expect people to have a similar reaction to a person walking around shoving a camera in their face, filming them without their consent too.

And funnily enough, after most of the reports of people being treated badly while wearing Glass, a day or two later it turns out that they were acting as the stereotypical "glassholes" and are surprised when people don't appreciate their behavior.
These incidents don't usually arise out of nowhere.

I'm not saying that people deserve to be assaulted over them, but I do understand why there is hatred for the device, and why you might not want to walk around with $1500 on your face.
