Title: Working with two PCs
Post by: Steve Kille on February 16, 2002, 08:13:11 pm
I manage my music on a desktop, but also want to replicate onto my laptop, to take the music on the road.    Can someone tell me the files I need to replicate, or how best to manage this?  (or where I can find this info)

thanks

Steve

You can just install MJ on the new machine, transfer your license (see the FAQ here), move your music.  Then import files again.

Jim,

Thanks.    This will get the basic tunes on both machines.   However,  if I manage information to enable sorting and views on the primary PC,   I'd like to get this data onto the laptop too.    I assume that this is stored in MJ config files, and I need to get these copied over to the laptop??

BTW,  I think you've got a GREAT product here.   Good luck against the big boys.

Hi Steve,

Create a backup of your library on your desktop machine.
Copy your music in the same directory path onto your laptop.
Restore your library onto your laptop.
That should do the trick.

If you can't create the exact same path on your laptop, then restore the library onto the laptop, select all files, go to Properties > Tools > Find/Replace, and replace your desktop path with your new path for all files.

Or rather than backing up and restoring, you can use the "Add->Clone from" feature of Library Manager.
