Title: Sync Artist and Album Artist
Post by: joshhuggins on May 09, 2014, 04:29:39 pm
Is there a way to automatically keep Artist and Album Artist in sync?

Nope.

May I ask why the need?

What do you mean by keeping them "in sync"?
If there is only one artist listed, [Album Artist (auto)] will use that.
If [Artist] and [Album Artist] differ, there's usually a very good reason for it.

I use another program for my primary HTPC interface that uses the Artist tag as a the main tag for Artist. Since Media Center is driven primary by the Album Artist tag I have been going thru and saving my custom views and use Artist as my primary Artist tag now too as well instead of Album Artist.  But sometimes I forget after a reload to swap out my views and it's only until later I notice that my tagging doesn't match with what I know I had tagged, that I remember that I hadn't switched out my views. I was just hoping that someone might have a clever way of syncing the two automatically. I will just continue to manually use the Library Tools, Move/Copy Fields. Was trying to avoid using this as I use it on all my files at once so I don't have to hunt and peck for which files have incorrect tags, so all my audio files get flagged as changed and my backup queue get blown up. Thanks for the reply guys.

I see.

MC primarly uses Album Artist (auto) in views, sorting rules, etc.  In various places in the UI, you see "Artist", but that often means Album Artist (auto), the calculated field defined:
