Title: switch between programs, putting one in background?

I'm not sure if this is possible but I thought I'd ask.
I run both JRiver and Foobar on my laptop. This is connected to my TV.
I control both JRiver and foobar via a Nexus 7.
What I would like is to be able to do is have what ever of the two come to the front when they begin playing a file putting the program not in use to the background so what ever of the two programs I use to play a file automatically displays on my TV.
Any ideas?

 Just a thought , but is it possible to add a command to Gizmo so that it initiates the ''Close Media Centre'' option in theatre view? And one to wake it the same way the big green button works on my windows remote?
