Title: Audio Stutter at beginning of songs through Ethernet (802.3) no wireless
Post by: jllaudio on May 11, 2014, 10:58:08 am
I'm connected to my OPPO 105 through Ethernet (802.3) and I get a stutter at the beginning of most songs (flac, 192k/24bit).  I have the buffer setting to the highest (500ms) allowable in JR19.  I have pre-buffering set for 10 seconds.  I have the play from memory setting checked.  I seem to remember stuttering being a problem with earlier versions of JR and there was a setting that could be set to correct this problem.

I don't have the problem when I use the the USB from my computer to digital cable set up to my DAC then pre-amp.  But I would like to also be able to use the Ethernet connectivity to the OPPO.  Once the stutter gets over with at the start of each song, the rest of the song play's through the OPPO correctly.  I just would like to get rid of the stutter.

Try a smaller buffer.

I have similar issues with MC19 for windows using a Classe CP-800 as a DAC.  I followed the "Recommended Settings (DAC's connected via DLNA over ethernet)" on the JRiver wiki site, but still get occasional stuttering at the beginning of tracks.

Interestingly, if I connect the Windows (XP) notebook running JRiver to the CP-800 with a USB cable, I can stream tracks without problem.  Also, I had successfully streamed the same tracks via Ethernet (using twonky and not using JRiver) to a Linn DS unit, so I am confident the integrity of the tracks themselves are good.

Hence, I suspect there's some sort of buffering or packet size issue that's causing the intermittent problem.  I'm at a bit of a loss, as I can't find where to play with these settings for DLNA streaming.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
JBC

I have similar problems with my Oppo 103.  Unless, my set up is incorrect, there is no option to change the buffer size when the Oppo is selected as the zone to configure.  I see it for the zone identified as Player, but not for the Oppo.  Instead, I get a message to "Configure audio using Options>Media network>Add or configure
dlna servers...  Going to the advanced section under Add or configure DLNA devices provides no such option.  Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Mike

That's my experience too - that there's nothing I could find within the standard DLNA settings which enables changing the buffer size for Ethernet connection.  Suggestions would certainly be appreciated...

Given that the USB output works fine in my case, I don't think it's a bandwidth issue.
