Hi there - I am very new to J River 24 hours. But I am not new to computing and DLNA in general having used Windows Media Centre since XP. (So don't panic :) )
I currently employ the Silicon Dust HD Homerun DBV-T dual tuner dedicated hardware tuner. It's 99% faultless recording my TV content.
To do this, I run a dedicated Intel Atom using Win7 Media Centre (Win8/8.1 was a straight port from Win7 and wasn't so hot.)
Playback is usually on a TV via DLNA or PC as opposed to involving another (DLNA contrller or possibly software) rendering device.
The reason for this post is that J River can't seem to find any channels from the Tuners it detects in my system.
Repeated channel scans return nothing - zip.
Here's the list of devices J River sees in the system.

If I click on SHOW STATUS when the scan is "in flight" it shows the following information:
=== Television Devices ===
Device 0: Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 1210ADE9-0 (digital)
State: Scanning

Recording Rule IDs:
Tuner Type: DVB-T
Device 1: Silicondust HDHomeRun Tuner 1210ADE9-1 (digital)
State: Idle
Device 2: Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 (analog)
State: Idle

If I look at the HD Homerun Box one light is on (Power) and both the other lights are blinking on and off. (Tunner communication).
I enabled loging within J River and then performed the scan opperation once more.
Here is a link to the recorded LOG.TXT - created during the channel scan (failures).
http://1drv.ms/1gyynUX
From my lay persons view the log seems to show that J River is expecting a channel lock and one is not being acquired.
More information.
I can watch Live TV - no problem - on the same computer where this is happening using either MCE or Quick TV (Silicone Dust TV Viewer).
I have reset the HD Homerun Box to ensure there were no lingering connections locking it's Tuners.
Also rebooted the local PC.
Firmware Version is (which I undated today) 20140121 (Current Latest) - but this has not changed the status of this issue.
Negative channels.
P.S.
The EPG is being downloaded to the temporary directory successfully and looks fine.
I mention this because when MCE is set up it always wants the EPG before the channel list - you guys may do it the other way - I can't tell from the info I have read so far.
I am overally very impressed with JRiver and hope to ditch these two products and replace them with J River.
Serviio
Windows Media Center
(Also iTunes for audio)
I already posted in media network about how I customised the TV rendering settings to support AVC_HD without transcoding - a format that I will ultiamtely send J River recorded content to the TV's.
Looking forward to getting this working as it should do.
Thanks in advance for the time spent.

Hi yinmeout,
Lots of us (my self included) use HDHomeRun, it works great and I'm sure we can get you going. The two things to try is:
- Run MC as Administrator the first time you do a channel scan, and
- Make Sure the MC is in the allowed through the Windows Firewall
-
Hi - so simple - I can't believe I forgot that.
Can you elaborate please which exe I need to permit?
I assume "Media Center 19.exe" is the one - BUT:
I ask because I plan to ultimately run the "Server" instance of J River - doing TV recording and hosting the library - headless on a Windows Server / (which is also my NAS box)
So would that be JService.exe then?
Cheers

I have the following in my Windows Firewall:
- HDHomeRun Config
- HDHomeRun Config (CLI)
- HDHomeRun QuickTV
- HDHomeRun Setup
- JRWorker Application (C:\program files (x86)\j river\media center 19\jrworker.exe)
- Media Center 19 (C:\program files (x86)\j river\media center 19\media center 19.exe)
The HDHomeRun ones should already be in there and you probably only need to add the Media Cener 19 one.

I added the main EXE to the firewall list and it works now.
So easy to overlook - many thanks.

No Probs - glad you are up and going ;D
