Title: MC gone silent [Solved]
Post by: G. Shumway on May 17, 2014, 08:10:50 pm
Hey all,

Suddenly my MC plays silently.  I output via digital coax to a 5.1 channel receiver.  The receiver shows that it is getting a signal, but no volume.  I tried switching output to headphones via front audio out and same problem.  Both headphones and receiver play audio from system sounds and other programs.  Any ideas what happened/what I did?  Haven't changed settings recently, which is why this is confusing me.

It's too quiet over here!  Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried unplugging the receiver to completely reset it? The processor I own will do that and a "hard" reset corrects it. This may have nothing to do with your situation but I am just suggesting it's possible it's not JRiver.

Check the Windows mixer and make sure something there isn't muted.

It is possible, but he said system sounds and other applications play.  So, unless they're playing via a different sound device, then the whole system isn't muted.

I'd guess either MC itself is muted, or his Audio settings got borked up.

Rebooted and tested playback again. This time I got an MC playback error about not being able to play WASAPI 44.1 kHz 2 channel.  I switched it to Direct Sound default output with same error.  Opened Realtek HD Audio Manager to see what I could see and found Dolby Pro Logic IIx turned on.  I haven't touched my audio settings in ages, so I couldn't remember if that had been on previously or not, but, in the spirit of trying everything, I turned it off and switched MC back to WASAPI.  Lo and behold, I have sound once again.

Dunno how or why, but thanks to everyone trying to be helpful.
