Title: I have a headache: why can't I control the volume?

... whatever the level I put, it goes slowly back to 100% as soon as I release the mouse button.
It has happened to me before, and I am sure it is something stupid.
But I am doing my taxes today and for the life of me I don't remember!

(I am set to Internal volume)
