Title: Computer Power User (CPU) - MJ Version 8 Reviews
Post by: Mysticeti on September 09, 2003, 06:20:15 pm
Back in January "CPU" Mag gave MJ8 four out of five stars:

(may require registration).

The latest edition (September) has two blurbs on MJ8.  The first is basically an overview of the product and is informative/positive:

The second article focuses on Audio Conversion and is a survey of products from several vendors.  Here MJ8 didn't fair as well but still received 3 out of 5 stars.

The complaints: a bit slow and the reviewer had problems with MJ "locking up" on him.

Finally, "CPU" is aware of MC9.  In May they had this to say:

JRiver Media Center

With version 9, the old Media Jukebox media player becomes the JRiver Media Center, and it should be finalized as you read this. A 30-day beta is available otherwise. More than a simple upgrade, this very sophisticated player adds support for multiregion DVD playback and TV-in features, including digital video recording functionality. You can organize digital image slideshows with audio soundtracks, create audio visualization and CD labels, and schedule recordings. Media Jukebox 8 owners have to buy into the full $39.98 package here, however.

This Statement is not true, MJ8 Users Can Pay A Small Upgrade Fee.

If you previously purchased Media Jukebox 8 and now want to upgrade to Media Center 9, make sure Media Jukebox 8 is correctly licensed with a version 8 license.  Then install Media Center 9 and select the "Buy" option from within the program. Verify the price is correct and that the product contains the word "upgrade;".

Nope.  No question.

It seems to be a general practice to post reviews of MJ (or MC) here so that inacuracies corrected, wrongs can be righted, etc. in a fair and balanced way.

Cheers!
