Title: Update problem [solved]
Post by: philifa on June 30, 2014, 04:09:35 am
Hi, for the past couple of weeks my copy of JRiver has tried to update itself on programme startup. However, each time it has failed with the message "Could not copy necessary files - Please ensure that the file C:\Programme Files (x86)\J River\Media Centre 19\JRTools.dll    is not in use." Can anybody help as I haven't got a clue why this is appearing. I even uninstalled JRiver hoping a clean re-instal would solve the problem but it hasn't.
Cheers,
Phil

Why not ?
- Backup your library
- Uninstall MC
- Download the latest build from the top of the board
and avoid the update process altogether.

Does that make a difference? Or at the very least get you out of the frustration cycle?

Hi,
I have already uninstalled and tried a re-boot and fresh install from above but....I am still getting the same message during the install. So, I am currently without JRiver altogether!!

If it is antivirus causing trouble, disabling it may not be enough.  Uninstall the antivirus to test.

My signature has a link to "Weird Problems".  You may find something there.

The problem seems to be that the file(s) "JR Tools.dll"  is/are being used by another programme. Do you have any idea how I can find out which other programme? Can't see anything in Task Manager.

Is another user logged in?

Are you using any third party plug-ins or programs?  Any that are unlicensed?

It's possible the error is wrong.

Did you try uninstalling the antivirus or reading the link I gave you?

I have disabled all add-ons, most start up programmes, unloaded my antivirus, password protector and spotify all to no avail. JRiver will not load.

If you get that message, close Explorer (and any other file managers) with Task Manager.

Hi Matt, stopped explorer with task manager and tried again but sadly no joy. The file JR Tools.dll is on my computer but it wont let me delete it as its being used by another programme. I'm sure if I could get rid of this file which, was still there even after deleting JRiver, things would work again.

Did you look in Task Manager to see what else is running?  Try reducing what is running.

What version of Windows are you using?

Has anything changed recently?  New programs installed, for example.

Search for JRWeb and JRWorker in Task Manager.

Well done Jim....it was Triode's excellent Squeezelite plugin for the Logitech Media Server to blame. There was no indication in task manager this was running however when I unticked it in LMS J River loaded up straight away.
Many thanks to all those that offered advice.....much appreciated.
