Title: Update Problem
Post by: garysi on June 30, 2014, 05:26:26 pm
The update for Media Center 19 message came up but when I ran the update it stalled with the message: Cannot continue update please make sure "C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\JRiver\MediaCenter19\x64\JRTools.dll" is not in use.  Can anyone help with this. The dll is where it is supposed to be, but how do I know if it is in use or not?

Stop Explorer and other file managers with Task Manager.  Then install again.

Do you mean stop Windows Explorer?

I think this is the suggested plan:

I shut down Windows Explorer, still get the message...cannot load Media Center...   "Failed to load JRTools".  I still see Media Center in the Program Files.  Just cannot open it. Do I need to download another Media Center? If so how do I restore my license?  Managed to re-open Media Center.  Guess I will not do the update until someone comes up with a workaround.

Have you done anything unusual to your OS?  Windowblinds?  Registry Cleaner?  ....

You get that message when something has JRTools.dll open.  Try a reboot followed immediately by an install.

I have seen that before and as matt said, it fixed the issue.

Reboot, Reinstall

Let me get this straight.  Uninstall MC, reboot and then re-install MC?  Do I need to get a new restore code for the license?

I have literally just had this problem (see below on forum). It was Triodes excellent 3rd party plugin "Squeezelite" in the Logitech Media server. Once I unticked this everything worked fine.

I get this every once and a while. Reboot, reinstall is always required!

So I've been trying to shut down mc server before updating. To see if this helps.
Because once you lose control of jrtool you no longer have the necessary permissions to kill the process.

The license won't be affected.  No need to restore.
