I was playing around with some settings trying to deal with the crackling noise that I posted earlier yesterday, as came around trying quad DSD settings that does not play smooth. It is rather stater playback.
I remember many people mentioned that it requires fast CPU.
When I look into performance monitor, the CPU does not look busy. My i5 could go up to 3.4 ghz. But it stays below 1 ghz. The CPU load is about 10 -12 %.
When I looked into individual cores consumption, it did not look like any core is at 100%. I guess the dsd conversion is likely single threaded. Am I correct?
When I just start up my PC, while loading services I can see my CPU is at 3.4 ghz and busy, so if asked it would go up to 3.4
Anyone to share your experience on now jriver manages a CPU load?

DSD encoding is single threaded. You could try increasing buffering in Options > Audio and see if that helps.

No, increasing buffer didn't not fix the problem entirely.
My question was a bit different though. If jriver push CPU hard enough being single threaded, I would expect the following:
1. About 25 % CPU consumption for a single threaded process on 4 core CPU.
2. Push the CPU to 3.4 ghz assuming high load. What I can see it stays at 0.75 ghz.

Probably quad DSD is more competitive feature rather than practical.
I do not think CPU like i5 is underpowered. It is rather there is a bottleneck in the dsd converter algorithm that underutilize the CPUs.
Speaking of feature priority, I do not think that at this point it makes sense to go beyond a claim that such feature is available.

Quick question is the DSD encoding is single threaded per channels, in other words different channels DSD processing could be done on different CPU cores?

It uses a single core.

As was suggested by another member of this forum, I set power saving settings into high performnce mode, and it did the trick. Quad dsd started to work.
