Title: Theater View and CPU usage
Post by: DougHamm on July 31, 2014, 10:01:04 pm
Hey everyone,

Regular views idle at about 2% CPU or less, while Theater View idles at 6+%.  Doesn't seem like much but on my 8" Win8.1 tablet (which I love...) that overhead means a noticeably shorter battery life.  Are there any tricks to lowering CPU usage of Theater View?  Any acceleration setting or screen refresh settings to change?

Regards,
-Doug

Tools->Options->Theater View->Advanced Options

1. Lower the framerate to 30fps.

2. Enable "Use fullscreen exclusive mode for drawing"

Tools->Options->Theater View->General->Video Card

1. Set "Hardware Accelerated Graphics" to Low Quality

Thanks!  It ended up being the v-sync option.  Disabled it and CPU dropped to 0%.

That's bizarre. Disabling v-sync should increase usage, if anything, rather than decrease it.

Yeah I would expect that too.  Possibly a bug most wouldn't notice as it is really just a few %.

I think more people are starting to use lower-power systems for this purpose now, with ultrabooks, small form-factor computers like the NUC, and x86 tablets that run Windows 8.

It's definitely something that should get some attention.
