Title: Theater View performance
Post by: eba on August 16, 2014, 05:09:07 pm
Theater View is slow to the point of being completely unusable on my machine on MC19.

It works smoothly and fine with MC15 and 17

Any idea what the issue would be?
It's a 6 month old moderately reasonable laptop, which to be fair has had more than its fair share of issues, and will likely shortly be heading back for replacement at any rate...(so maybe this can help me pin down exactly what is actually wrong with it).

Meanwhile, my old laptop (8 years old) has no problem with MC19 Theater View!

Since it is Theater View that is slow for you, I would make sure I had the latest video drivers installed for your machine.

In Theater View settings, try a lower frame rate.  Look around there.  There's another setting that might help.

but this doesn't explain why an 8 year old laptop runs it fine, while a brand new one with a 2GB video card as opposed to just an inbuilt Intel thing runs it stuttery, but only on MC19!  (settings haven't been changed at all)

Interesting.  Yes I did.  But as a further test, I went directly to the AMD website and tried to download a new driver from there.  It installed a new driver for a slightly different card (R9 625x instead of HD 8850M) and now Theater view does indeed run smoothly.  But my computer now hangs every time I try to switch it off...

Definitely sounds like a driver thing then.

Yep.

Asking Windows to update it sets it back to 8850M...and I'm back at Square 1  >:(

Thanks all!
