> 1. Fixed: Multimedia keys should work better.

Still broken, same as 198. I also updated my keyboard driver from Windows Update.

Reiterating my report...

Multimedia keys work fine when MJ has focus.

When MJ does not have focus:
- Play/pause button "blips" playback when MJ is playing, and starts Windows Media Player
- Stop button causes MJ to GPF
- Prev/Next track buttons work fine.

Microsoft Internet Keyboard Professional, USB, driver 2.0.300.0.

11. NEW: Added "Fast Forward" and "Rewind" (Ctrl|PLS|Left / Ctrl|PLS|Right)

Great, except....
They don't work on video files.
When seeking, the time position in the status bar is replaced by Buffering so you can't tell where you've got to.
Will they be added to the Girder plugin?

7. NEW: Added file "Statistics" system

The stats for # Artists and # Albums are the same number (something is not right about that...I know I have 100s of artists with multiple ablums loaded).

Yeah, it appears as though MJ counts (unassigned) as a seperate album for each artist that has it.

It should be the same number of Albums that show up in an unfiltered Album Media View. Maybe even one less (subtracting (unassigned) from that count).

Doof, No

Anytime you have The Mega-Me Skin On, And You Click On a "option" button MJ crashes

that was one of the problems with the buy button

Yeah, but I thought in one of the earlier builds they specifically said that MEGA-ME skins had been disabled under XP.

I don't have an option anywhere for MEGA-ME skins, and I'm on XP.

KingSparta> Weren't you running one of the XP betas? Did you upgrade to a full XP? I'm just wondering if MJ isn't really detecting that you're on an XP system, so it's allowing you the MEGA-ME skins when it shouldn't be.

I just distinctly remember this being listed in the history of one of the builds, and the fact that I don't have MEGA-ME skins listed as an option on either of my two XP systems strengthens that belief.

Here's what it was I was thinking of.

History 7.2
7.2.280 (12/11/01)

Fixed: Media Jukebox would crash when check box is selected on Win XP.
NEW: Added support for Windows XP skinning
Changed: Removed option to set mega-me skin on Windows XP.
NEW: Added support for many more CD-R/RW drives

I'm assuming that holds true for 8 as well, but maybe not.

Was it just supposed to be disabled for the XP theme and not the classic theme?

Mega-me skin should not be available on Win XP. The reason we removed mega-me skin because it was causing a lot of problems on Win XP (I guess you discovered it already Next Page )

Cover Art is linking to the temp directory again when upgrading each build (internal files).

Also, cover art does not display in mp3s even though it says located in file.

Windows Vis doesn't stay on top when it shows "always on top". Have to turn off and then on again to set. Icon associated with window would look better with MJ icon.

Remote Control : Next\Previous playlist causes MJ to crash when it hits Top Hits or Recently Played.

Recently Played & Top Hits : Reset doesn't work the way I thought it used to. It doesn't purge anything, it just sets everything's playcount to 1, even if nothing's ever been played. After doing a Reset on both, they both just have the first x number of entries from Media Library. Shouldn't they be empty?

Rules : Putting the closing ']' on the end of a rule based on location causes that rule to return nothing.

Track Info : If a file has a rating of ?, TRACKINFO_INSERT_RATING returns 0 instead of ?.

Request : Can we get a % indicator on the Startup Volume option?
Request : Can we get a Quick Skin menu in mini-me?
Request : How about using the Status Bar to display Repeat, Shuffle, and Filter modes?

Question : Did anybody read my post about wanting an alphabetized Playing Now in the Quick Play menu?

None of their respective toolbar buttons cause the branches to auto-expand the way they do when you click on that branch. This goes for Playing Now, Media Library, Playlists, and Devices.

TV Tuner : Not sure if this is happening only because I don't have a TV Tuner, but if I close the Channels buttons, and then choose TV Guide or Yahoo! TV, the channel buttons appear on top of the display.

Bugs:

1. If you use the Windows Explorer's right-click menu to 'MJ > Play' or 'MJ > Add to Playing Now' when MJ is not currently running, MJ does not process the Windows Explorer-initiated request properly.  MJ displays the last saved Playing Now content, but plays the first song from the Windows Explorer request.  Then, the next song played is actually what you see next in the Playing Now list (ie, the last played tracks).

2. MJ does not remember the 'Disable Visualizations' setting.  If you use the right-click menu to Disable Visualizations and restart MJ, Visualizations are re-enabled again.

3. MJ crashes if you play with changing visualizations after about 4 or 5 changes (sometimes fewer).  This has been a problem in all 8.0 releases (that I've noticed).  Basically, I just get the urge to check them out occasionally...so I cycle thru a few (or turn Cycling option on) very quickly (using the right-click menu) and MJ crashes everytime.  Sometimes, I accidently click Visualization Studio and MJ crashes.  Just seems a bit unstable in this area...

4. The word Statistics is misspelled on the Edit menu as Stastics.

5. I have had MJ crash after its been playing for a few hours minimized to the tray and I right-click the tray icon and choose Stop.  I think in earlier MJ 8.0 builds a few folks reported MJ crashing after running for a while and using the tray icon to perform some action.

DSP - again - it's not worked for me in any of the v8 builds :-

For Virtual Sub and Surround Field -
1. Select the DSP icon and the menu appears
2. Select Virtual Sub or Surround Field and the drop down appears
3. Make a selection from the drop down and the description DOES change to your selection
4. If DSP was off, the action of step 3 WILL TURN IT ON
So far, no problem....

ForEnvoronment, Intelli-Volume and Replay Gain -
1. Select the DSP icon and the menu appears
2. Select Environment, Intelli-Volume or Replay Gain and the drop down appears
3. Make a selection from the drop down and the description DOES'NT change to your selection
4. If DSP was off, the action from Step 3 WILL NOT TURN IT ON

Quick play is missing files in Location.

c:\mp3s;c:\mp3s\artist\album. files in c:\mp3s\ do not show, artist\album works.

How about creating a header in the list then a separator and then the rest (directories)
Title: RE:Media Jukebox 8.0.199 Beta Available...
Post by: dragyn on February 06, 2002, 11:35:59 pm
Sort by location is out of order. The fix in the earlier builds would be to click twice on the header. Doing this now wont work.

It should sort the files in the parent directory, then move on to the subdirectories.

What I see it's doing is sorting the parent directory (only a few files, in order), going to sub directories (lists all of them fine) then back to the parent directory with a few yet sorted files.

REQ: There should also be a check box next to "Sorting" in the tree options to turn it on/off without having to remove everything.

Auto Update does NOT work in any of the 8 builds for me under WinXP Pro.

I have uninstalled the program, deleted any left over files and cleaned the registry before doing a full reinstall after reboot and still does not work.

It says items are available but when I select them it just sits there and then after a few mins says program not responding.

Very annoying when I am currently connected via 56k modem and have to download 8meg updates every 3 - 4 days to try new builds.

The new Stats are great.  How about these enhancments:

1. Resizeable dialog (so we can view all columns easily)...remember the settings/column sizes (of course)
2. On the detail breakdowns like Album / Artist List, add stats columns for total MB and total running time per line item.
3. On the detail breakdowns, add a bottom row that is the totals for the stats columns (# files, total MB and total running time)

In visualizations that use COVER_ART the picture is not updated correctly on my Windows 98 machine.  It stays on the first song that you play until you go to a different view and then come back.  It updates correctly on Windows NT machine.  It also updates correctly on the Windows 98 computer on the Track Info tab in playing now.

When you have a playlist ready to burn, select it and click the CD burner icon (or select "Write (burn) CD" from the tools menu). The CD Writer dialog will appear.

No it doesn't. Everything appears to work normally. My CD/RW is detected. All MJ does is show that the playlist is in the M: drive (it's not) and nothing else happens. "Device - CD Burner (M: )>" is at the top of the left window but "Start" is never an option. I know it's been a couple of weeks since I burned a CD but surely I haven't forgotten how THIS soon.

Seeing all these betas makes me feel as if we'll never see the finished 8.0.  Not to demoralize...i mean, what do i know about programming besides the basics of Java and data structures...but really...

When is the projected finish?  What is the time line?

It's looking really good....the Stats add is nice,  indeed.

Collage number 1 still needs help initializing in WinXP Pro....it's been broken for quite some time.
Also, is there any way...in MJ or another program....to speed up ID3 tag editting and saving...saving to many or large files in particular....

Long live MJ.

Is it supposed to recognize older licenses, or is that a bug?

The time displayed is not correct. It's been this way in every single build.

If you have crossfading on and switch songs, notice where the song is compared to the time. Now stop everything and play the song again. You'll notice the times don't match up. It can be a second off or even upwards to 6 secs.

MJ is starting the clock before the buffer runs out on the previous song.

Using WinXp Pro on 2 machines, 2 different sound cards -> same results.

Starflyer,
Please post your ID3 question in a separate thread.

Release is probably about a month away.  This build seems reasonably stable and stability will now be our main task.  In a week or two, the beta will go on the download page.  Two or three weeks there, and we'll be ready.  Probably.

Bug:

1. With MJ running on my Win2K Pro PC, MJ interferes with external CD burning software.  With MJ not running, no burning problems using external CD burning software.  I use MyCD Pro v2.0 (Veritas) to burn data CD-RWs occasionally.  Last night, I was getting failures attempting to burn (some kind of command failure) when using MyCD Pro...first time in 18 months I've EVER seen that (seriously).  It was driving me nuts...2 brand new CD-RW disks and the same problem.  So, I thought for a bit and stopped MJ.  Using the same CD-RW disks, the burns finished without error.  I never, ever saw this problem using MJ v7.x with the same version of MyCD Pro.

Interesting Rip Error - I was trying to rip an entire CD yesterday, but would get errors on several songs that import in to MJ failed.  I was using  MP3/VBR for encoding.  I switched to WAV and the ripped fine.  I then went and converted them using MP3/VBR and that went fine.  Something is up.  I have over two thousand songs currently and I have never had that happen, so I think it may be something with MJ.

Darn...

You got so close to getting the satistics just right, but missed...

Just need an album list option with the number of files in each .... and it would be perfect!

Category Value
Files         22736
Artists          3673
Albums          3673
File Size 124.173GB
Duration 1612:22:41

Reckon I have a lot less albums than artists though.. Next Page

Great step in the right direction, and the fade out on stop/exit is brilliant!

starflyer> "Collage number 1 still needs help initializing in WinXP Pro....it's been broken for quite some time"

Both collages are working fine for me on two different systems, both running XP Pro. What exactly isn't it doing for you?

Hi

3. Fixed: Shell Extensions would not work with large number of files

When you select 6 files in Windows explorer, which are also in track order, and select MJ>Next Pagelay the play order is 6,1,2,3,4,5 This also happens when you select MJ>Add to playing now...
This has been the same all through Versions 8.....

I don't recall seeing this one posted. My Volume changes depending on?? I think it has something to do with buffering. At times, the volume gets abnormally low; I can pause or stop playback for a short time and it's back up to acceptable level when song is restarted.
What to do?

llmar,

When you select 6 files in Windows explorer, which are also in track order, and select MJ>lay the play order is 6,1,2,3,4,5 This also happens when you select MJ>Add to playing now...

That's not an MJ bug...it's a Windows feature.  You have to select in reverse order (6 to 1) and make sure you right-click the 1st track when you are choosing the MJ Play/Add To Playing option.  Because you track 6 was the last track highlighted (selected) and, probably, the track you right-clicked on, Windows conveniently sends it as the first track (to any application in drag-n-drop).

Arclight,
Just to back up your report of errors with importing while ripping CDs. I reported it a few days ago although no one else was able to confirm it at the time.

Follow Up:  I just tried another CD and half the songs failed to import.  Definitely, definitely have a problem.

Request : Can we get Play, Add to Playing Now, Send To, and File Properties on ALL nodes of the Media Library tree, including Media Library itself and the individual Media Views?

If you are editing the search criteria in a view scheme and then change a component, it reverts back to what it was originally.

If you change the display name and add a component, it reverts back to the original

(I'm using 198 cause of the explorer bug but I don't think this has been fix in this version)

I had installed this version, then installed 198 to use explorer functions. Reinstalled this version (199) again and it gave me an error:

Media Jukebox 7.1 Install Wizard failed to install a neccessary file.

Sorce: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Setup\RegControl.dll
Destination: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\RegControl.dll

This was after a reboot.

I'll see if I can explain this so you can reproduce it.

Create a smart list as follows: lastplayed=<=86400
This will show only songs played within the last day. This works.

Set the playback filter to skip this smartlist.

Go into Media Library and start playing X. X will show in the smartlist. Before X finishes playing, start playing Y. You'll see Y in the smartlist.

Now hit Stop. You'll notice that the icon for X and Y isn't faded.

Start playing X again, it plays (not supposed to), same with Y.

Now play either X, Y, or a new song (Z) and let it finish (or move the slider toward the end to finish)

Once it finishes, X, Y, and Z are updated and won't play (like it should)

If you do a restart, they get updated aswell.

I'm not sure if I already posted this...

If you leave MJ playing for an extended amount of time with visualizations running, MJ will crash in module (I think - can't quite remember) vis_studio.dll.

This is especially true for full screen mode, but I've seen it even in mini-me.

Question: Why is the playlist in minime-mode using a Winamp-skin still flickering? There's no flickering in normal mini-me mode, using one of your skins, but when I change to a Winamp skin, it flickers all time, looks like it is updating playlist all the time.

WHY?

Request: When using the visualization studio, you are able to display the artist, album, name, time elapsed, and track #. What about the genre or year or comments etc.. Is this going to be an option.

Thanks....

It's already in there. I forget what it is though. I stopped making my vis when they broke the code and had to start over.
