Title: Songs Play Twice
Post by: Kduff999 on September 01, 2014, 05:43:55 pm
Sometimes my MC (19.0.163) gets into a state where is plays each song twice. The first time a song plays, the display at the top of the screen shows no time change during the song play (e.g. stays on 0:00 / 3:49). When the song finishes, it plays again, and the display shows progress through the song. Exiting MC and restarting doesn't fix the problem. After fiddline around for a day or so the problem goes away. But then it returns a few days later.

Any ideas about what is happening and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Keith

What output device are you playing to? And how is it connected?

Thanks for the reply,

It's a 6 room system with two basic configurations. Three rooms have a Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 feeding an A/V sound system. Three rooms have an NAD 7050 integrated renderer/amp. The music is stored on a Synology DiskStation 214-Play NAS with MC running on a Windows PC. We're controlling it from Web Gizmo on my Android phone and JRemote on my wife's iPhone.

The system sounds great, but is flaky and unstable - still trying to get it into a reliable configuration and way over my head in terms of complexity. Sometimes it can't find the music files and I have to reboot all of the components (a few times in some cases). Right now, the music in one NAD room will play a single song, then stop. I have to select another song and start it to continue listening. However, a Cambridge Audio room is working fine.

One possible issue may be contention among multiple overlapping services trying to take control. For example, MC, the DiskStation, and NAD amps all claim to have DLNA servers. I'm not very computer literate, and not sure which one is in charge.

Don't know if this will help but it won't hurt to try.
In MC on the DLNA device zones, right click ->DLNA controller options->disable setnext support.

Bob is right, you should certainly try turning off SetNext..

Also disable the Upnp /Dlna server on the DiskStation.

Thanks very much. SetNext is now disabled and the DLNA server on the DiskStation is turned off. All rooms seem to be working well.

Out of curiosity, what does the SetNext setting do? I couldn't find an explanation of it on the Wiki.

It allows you to queue up the track so it is ready for a gapless transition from the current to the next track. But as you learned, it very often is not well implemented..

Does it mean that disabling this option prevents gapless playback ?

Does it mean that disabling this option prevents gapless playback ?
Yes but it's not useful if the device doesn't support it properly anyway.

Yes but it's not useful if the device doesn't support it properly anyway.

To be precise: disabling this option does not prevent gapless playback -- because your renderer did not support that feature in the first place, so there is nothing to prevent..

Sorry for my inaccurate Frenglish. I actually meant: "does disabling this option make me unable to get gapless playback?"
