Title: TV Scraping on Language Settings
Post by: steelman1991 on September 15, 2014, 02:16:18 am
Not sure of the mechanics of the JRiver scraping mechanism, but just stumbled across an issue while refreshing a scrape earlier yesterday. Appears as though the TVDB can now manage poster retrieval through 'language' settings, which to work effectively have to be pre-set in the software carrying out the scrape - http://forums.thetvdb.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19773.

I was under the impression that the TVDB split anything not in english, off into subsections of the information and any poster art would reside there - however looks like, for artwork anyway, that its a free for all and provided the poster is labelled with the language, then it will reside wherever the user chooses to post it and its then up to the software to make the choice based on language settings, presumably set in the scraping software. Although JRiver scrapes the information for me in English, it chooses the artwork based purely on most popular (I think), rather than by language and in this instance the German version is the most popular, hence this is what is downloaded. Are there any plans to introduce this to software.

Thanks

Official?

I don't know.

When we have some time, we'll take a look at what we could do.

Clearly you or another staff member are the only ones who could give an official response, wasnt' that difficult a concept to grasp surely.  ?

Thanks for the response - clearly given the timescale from StuckMojo's reply - I won't hold my breath.

Scraping in english is a pain for non-english-speaking people

Hope there will be a change so that in e.g. german or other langugaes can be scaped.
